Some of you may have already heard. I told the other GMs and officers two nights ago, but now the other shoe appears to have dropped and I am now at the mercy of whatever Sanya Weathers (sanya@mythicentertainment.com) may or may not be able to do for me.
I believe that I have been the target of a calculated and cold-hearted attack upon my very real-life character, over a nickname which I have been known as since 1974 when a friend in the 7th grade couldn't catch me...He said, I was as annoying as a mosquito because I was so fast. From that day on, I have been known as Skeeter or Skeet to my friends.
After beginning to play online in a game called Imperium around 1990 with my long time friend, Buodonn, I took up the online variation - Skeetarian. There were beginning to be more and more 'Skeeter's' already registered as our online world expanded from just the local BBS we used dialed into everyday.
Skeetarian became my online nickname around 1993 and I have used it ever since then and will continue to do so...I refuse to allow the apparent now vulgar slang meaning for the term skeet to force me to abandon my identity.
So, unless something can be done to convince the powers that be at Mythic to reconsider their now confirmed decision...I have logged in for the last time into any game produced by Mythic.
I have enjoyed immensely getting to know all of you and will miss you greatly. But, as you should know by now, I am a man of principle...and this is a very personal principle for me. My very name as been taken from me, by those that either refuse to listen to reason or simply do not care. I will not continue to associate with a company that allows this to occur.
I am sure that should I ever log in my main account again, that my character names will all be changed automatically...So, I will not give them or those that caused me this infuriating circumstance (if I was in fact /appealed) the satisfaction of my names actually ever being changed. They will live on, on the Herald for the next 88 days as a reminder to all that I have had the last decision as to what name my DAoC characters will fade into history as.
I have sent the following letter to the CSR that refused my request for my good name to be reinstated. It includes all email correspondence thus far so you all can see the ultimate insult, whereby Mythic chose to place a Warning on my account...FOR CHOOSING A NAME FOR MY CHARACTERS CONTAINING A SLANG TERM THAT DIDN'T EVEN EXIST WHEN I CREATED THEM!!!
My decision is final. I am especially saddened that I will no longer be logging on to play with all of you, but I hope you will understand and respect my decision. Every time I would log onto my account and have to see my 'new' name I would be reminded of the injustice with which I have been served by the company I was still paying after they have insulted me...Which is NOT going to happen.
So, unless something is done by Sanya and Missy to rectify this situation, I am done. I will continue to read the boards for a while, but once Sanya tells me there is nothing she can do, I will move on.
Sanya and Missy (and Julie before her) have always been honorable in any issues I have discussed with them, regardless of whether I agreed with the decisions their company may have subsequently made about their game...I bear them no ill will and salute their efforts on all of the players' behalf. My ire is reserved for the company they work for, which I used to pay to play.
Farewell. It has indeed been an honor to be associated with what we have all built into the #1 guild in Midgard.

I find it regrettable that you have chosen this position. While I can understand, I feel that my account has been targetted by someone that has it out from me, and Mythic is playing into their hands. I have had numerous contact with Mythic employees over the years, never ONCE has any of them made mention of them.
I plead with you to delve further into this matter with your supervisor. I am at a loss to believe that this is the way Mythic has chosen to treat a long term customer. The names I use are derivatives of my RL nickname that I have had since 1973-74. This is DECADES before anyone chose to turn part of it into a bad word.
Your bowing to whatever pressure you might have felt from some lowlifes that have either /appealed my good name and reputation (which I have worked hard to maintain within the DAoC community) OR from the co-opting of the term skeet and your company is just now getting around to taking issue with is bad enough.
Frankly, the infuriating part of all of this, which has caused a most personal feeling of betrayal, is the callous nature in which this was all handled. It is a sad day to have to think about leaving the game I have enjoyed playing over a name, but it is inconceivable that a warning was placed on my account, when clearly the term which you have taken issue with DID NOT EXIST at the time I created the account and all the names therein.

* The slang term that you are punishing me for was only made popular in the last couple of years
* My character names all begin with the 7 same letters, not just the 5 you have taken issue with (Skeetar)
* I have sent many appeals, many bug reports, many feedback forms, many emails, many PMs...and not until 2 days ago was anything EVER said to me about my toon names
Unless my names are restored forthwith, I will be leaving this game forever...and will never again purchase or play any game by Mythic...Which is unfortunate, because I truly felt like Mythic had finally got it right and the game I read about on the box back in 2001 was FINALLY here!
I am copying Sanya and Missy, both of whom I have had much correspondence with over the years, in the hopes that they can talk some sense to someone there in this matter.

I am copying Sanya on this email as she should know me from a long enough time ago and be able to vouch for the fact that my names have nothing to do with the slang term that has arisen in the last couple of years.
I'm sorry that some vulgar singers started to make the term skeet mean something dirty, but I have had the nickname Skeet since 1974 when a gradeschool friend noted that I ran fast and was as hard to catch as a mosquito...Hence, Skeet stuck.
Please reinstate my toon names as soon as possible and remove the ridiculous warning on my account.
