Haven't played in five years. How much has the game changed? |

I always missed the RvR part of DAOC, but I haven't played in at least five years. Last I played was after Labyrinth of the Minotaur came out. Are the changes in the game over the last five years going to be overwhelming, or can I get back in the swing of things without too much trouble? What are the populations like? It was trending strongly downward when I quit playing, and tbh I was surprised the game was still running when I checked this morning. Is soloing still a viable play style? I used to solo on my Reaver, but I also liked to play 8v8 on my reaver or cleric.

It's gotten better since the days you last played. Definitely worth coming back and giving it a shot. The new BG experience is worth the trial itself.
Still a lot of work needed, and this game should be free to play by the end of 2012.

A lot has changed in 5 years. ML's, Artifacts, and Dragon Gear can now be purchased with a variety of in game currency that can be farmed or with bounty points.
Most if not all classes have had changes and adjustments made to make them more balanced.
ML xp is no longer needed, champ level abilities are pretty useless.
Housing on Ywain 1 and 2 is impossible to find. That seems to be the only difference between the Ywain servers...housing. Other than that, it's all pretty much 1 server.
There is no longer /level 20 unless you are on Gaheris or Mordred (who incidentally have dying populations)
Leveling and templating a new toon is easy, and actually pretty fun now via the battlegrounds all the way from 1 to 50. The template may not be the best, but will get you by until you can tweak it at 50.
RVR is still RVR. Lots of action pretty much any time you log in both in NF or Lab.

not much has changed at all sense LOTM...
other then everything that used to be even remotely hard, is now easy enough for blind folded monkeys can do just by bashing on the keyboard with there fists...
seriously... theres no challenge left in anything...

"better" is completely subjective, i personaly think the dumbing down and easy mode the game has become has ruined it completely...

You know how if Ben Franklin came back to life in modern times, and he could see what we did with electricity, he'd be all, "My word! Look at what they've done with electricity, I don't even understand these freaking concepts."
Basically that.
Thanes are FotM.
Reavers have charge.
Necros are OP.
