I've played all 3 realms at 50, and I suggest you play a Cleric in albion. Hibernian players at 50 are very cliquey and generally refuse to group people they don't know. Midguard players tend to form "perfect" groups and won't group you unless you are exactly the type of healer they need (mend or pac; also midguard healers are even harder to play than most primary healers as they have so many jobs to do). In albion (zerg at least, which is what you will be playing to RR [realm rank] up on) people will form groups of 2 clerics + anything, including stealth. Though if you play a druid you could probably play hib and get groups regularly.

This is some good advice. I want to emphasize DO NOT ROLL HIBERNIA. You will never, ever get a group on Hib. People will tell you that you should go Hib because they are lower pop and could use the help, but the reason for that is because Hib is by FAR the least friendly realm. Albion is the easiest realm to get groups on and generally most helpful, and Midgard is pretty good as well, so between those two I'd say it's just whatever looks more enjoyable.

If you like being an offensive healer, roll a cleric and remove buffs from your enemies in addition to healing. If you like being a bit further back and mostly just healing, go for an Aug/Mend healer on Mid.

Wherever you decide to roll, the class forums on VN have a ton of helpful information and people willing to tell you everything you need to know about your class. The Ywain server forum can be entertaining, but I wouldn't recommend it for serious advice.

So 5 naturalist groups don't work anymore? We used to run 2 bards, 2 druids, a warden and then 3 heroes or 2 blademasters and a 2h/42shield hero

Played lots of MMOs and played this game for a short period way, way back when but was honestly too young and too short of an attention span at the time to seriously get involved with the game. I love organized PvP with people who are willing to put in the work required to achieve the needed teamwork and are more worried about the team than themselves and being "told what to do." Too many chiefs, not enough indians is a recipe for failure no matter what.

I'm sick of games with crappy PvP systems that leave me disappointed in the end, and the DaOC RvR system has always appealed to me.

Main questions I'm hoping to get some response on:

Are there enough people still playing for it to seriously be worthwhile trying out the game? Looking for honest opinions here. I have played games with small populations where pretty much everyone involved knows everyone else and enjoyed that, so I don't mind that part so long as the fighting is consistent and regular.

What realm would you recommend I play on? I have no real personal preference and would be looking to go to whichever realm I'm most likely to get good fights on. Also take into account the following point in this.

My playstyle leans towards being a healer and support player through and through. I've tried other roles and, while I can do them successfully, I always come back to healing because I enjoy it the most and always find myself frustrated when I'm not doing it. Within that, my preference is towards more heavy-armor, able to take some damage healers vs. cloth healers (think Holy Paladin in WoW or Combat Medic Commando in SW:TOR). What is the most effective PvP healer (and is there a specific realm that has one that is more effective than others?).

Thanks.

Don't waste time on this game. It's a dying piece of junk ran by shitiots. Your best bet is to move on and wait for either Tera to release, or guild wars 2. Of course you could always go mainstream and play wow, new expansion coming out this year for that one as well. Diablo 3's coming out, ect ect. There are tons of new titles coming out that will be far far far far far more enjoyable for you then this steaming pile. If you do decide for some reason to give this pooptacular title a whirl, better get your knee pads on and use um, you have fun activities such as getting zerged by opposing realm faction to get used to, having a good fight 1v1 with another only to have to jammed by 18 other fagglets, spending hours trying to find a semi decent group, spending hours trying to find someone with the proficient craft skills needed in order to supplement your template needs, ect ect ect.

Point blank. Die hard daoc fans will be die hard about it and disagree with everything I've said in my post. But. The old flavors stay the best if you never try the newer better ones right?

This game is not new user friendly, at all. This game screams DYIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGG.

On top of being unfriendly to new users, there are mechanics and things in this game that just do not make sense period. Such as, when you die in rvr, not only do you attain rez sickness which slows your movement speed and damage done vs other players, you also suffer from a rp gain penalty. Now that's a double whammy. Why the need for both? No reason what so ever.

If you wish to log over and try another realm. There is a mandatory waiting period of 5 minutes. Reasoning behind it? 0.

Random disconnects, shit tastic server latency, mixed with players from all around the world playing together (nice gesture but a P2P latency nightmare) makes the connection side of the game a real gem.

Need I drone on and on and on about the plethora of solid reasons you should pass on this title? If you do decide to try it out, first seek psychiatric help, you may indeed be a masochist and budding psychopath.

It is easy to be friendly and inviting when you are used to having 2-3 times the numbers of the enemy and 1-2 bad players/classes in group won't hurt you much. There are plenty of nice people in hib if you actually take the time to get to know them. However, most new people spend one night in region asking who the bg leader is, and log off and never return when they realize hib never has a zerg to latch on to.

This is a common example of the kind of people you find on hib. Roll alb or mid if you want to actually enjoy yourself.

the zerger is correct. Alb is the easiest realm to get groups on. Zergers dont like doing things by themselves and Alb classes are the best to group on and just enjoy the game on. Alb should be the realm of choice for any new player.
