Hi guys,

First of all this is not QQ by a "poor OP caster" but a general question because I'm trying to understand as it is my first time really playing a caster.

I've just leveled and temped a Fire Wizard and the amounts of outright resists I'm getting is out of this world!
Is this a feature of the game or is something wrong?

I know we cast much faster now than back in 2002 when I started so by casting more spells we will naturally get more resists but jeez...

It's quite common for me to get resisted 2-3 times in a row on a yellow con at level 50 using the level 47 DD with 50+13 Fire. I won't even talk about orange and above cons.
It seems totally random too. Sometimes I can destroy red mobs in 3-4 seconds with no resists and then not even get in a nuke on an orange con at max range. It's quite infuriating.

What is worse is getting resisted by players in PvP. I can understand it happening from time to time but it seems out of control.

My Air Theurg friend is using a lvl 45 DD and has twice the number of resists I get, especially in RvR. He has has gone and specced Mastery of Focus out of necessity.

Has anyone noticed this? I'm pretty sure it must be common to all casters of the game.

no....

get master of focus and a greater focal myth... it helps a lot.

imo if i would land ever cast it would make every fight very predictable. on my smiter resists are the only thing that will give a non full-tank the edge for a clear win.

resists on spells are a good thing to keep things interesting.

Outright resists are comparison of target level versus spell level (the delve level).

+Skill bonuses have no effect on this number, Mastery of Focus does, because it raises the value of the spell.

47 v 50 will be outright resisted more than 50 v 50. And 45 v 50 would be even more so.

GFM doesn't work in pvp.

Mastery of Focus 1-2 for you and your friend will help. More if you have some lower level spells you often use.

Greater focal myth does work in pvp. And helps tremendously.

+skill from items does give a benefit. +skill from realm rank is thought to help.

I notice less resists the higher rank I achieve on caster classes. So I subscribe to the latter belief. Pre r9 on my thane, I ran GFM. No resists. Took it off, bam! Resist resist resist. Now it seems much more manageable and I cycle many mythirians.

Actually I replied to a topic like this, back in 2011, and made my own post in 2008, regarding resist-rates on my Runemaster - but guess
wizzy has the same "issues"..

Not sure if it helps you though - but it's been known for a while.

Also remember that dual-effect spells such as dmg+debuff, lifetap (dmg+heal), dmg+snare etc have two resist checks and if either of them fail both effects are resisted, meaning those spells essentially have double the chance to be resisted.

Using a lower level spell on a higher level target amplifies this even more as rather than 5% + 5% or whatever the base value is, you get the increased resist chance on both effects.
