Definitely worth checking out. Shows have been great.
Obviously a lot of little things need to be cut out due to time constraints, but so far, everything that they've had to hit, they've hit in terms of plot or character advancement. I can't think of any scene of that type that hasn't been in the episodes so far.
Rather wait and buy the DVDs. Torrents are a bane on creative works.

And I will be purchasing the entire series when they are available. I'm through the last book available, so I can't wait for all the super sick developments. My g/f has never read the books, but she LOVES the series. Chances are if you liked LOTR movies you'll like this series.

I've been keeping up with it. It's pretty good. What's cool is to see how the castles look in the mind of the producers and George R.R. Martin compared to how I envisioned them in my head. I got The Wall way wrong. They've been keeping pretty close to the books, but definitely have strayed a bit, but those instances have been a bit necessary because it's hard to get all that is in the book into the show. They've done a much better job so far than Starz did with Pillars Of The Earth.

As a super fan of this series, I'm really pleased with what HBO has done. Casting, acting, art direction, all just fantastic. My only gripe would be the lack of fight scenes. They just skipped right over Rob taking it to Jamie Lanister, and some of the brief choreography for fights has been pretty simplistic. But the rest of it, goddamn, love it.
