Like I was telling Hela on facebook. His inactivity, while totally legal, resulted in more children being sexually assaulted. You might not have the legal obligation to call the police once you've reported it up your chain of command, but you have the moral obligation to do something.
Also, from a less moralistic veiwpoint, there is absolutely no way you could keep Joe Pa around because if you notice, no one is talking about Penn State football anymore. The kids on that team don't deserve to have their season distracted because their coach is a moron. Every press confrence for the next several months would be nothing but asking him why he didn't do more to protect those kids. I mean really, you hear that someone was doing something to a kid sexually, regardless of what it is, and you aren't gonna question why the police weren't involved in anyway? Again, due to his inactivity, more kids were sexually assaulted. Being fired as a consequence of that is an extremely small price to pay relative to what those kids had to go through. Especially considering that Joe Pa could have prevented it.
All the talk about him being a class act etc goes out the window. At the end of the day, he allowed more kids to be sexually assaulted by his inactivity. That isn't a class acr, not by any stretch of the imagination.

If this were anyone else at that school - or any other school - no one would be screaming for the guy to stick around. One thing that ticks me off about this country is that if people are big names or do good things, they get off scott free because we want them to. Screw that. If you do something [or in this case, don't], there should be consequences.
Yeah, so Joe offered his resignation effective at the end of the season - not enough. Amur hit it on the head - no one is talking Penn State football atm. You hear "Penn state," you hear "sex abuse."

As a PA native, I say eff him. When it comes to child rape you do more than the absolute minimum necessary. And look at how without even consulting the board he issued a statement saying when he would retire, and ordering them not to spend a minute of their time discussing it. Well, the board went and did the absolute minimum necessary by informing him over the phone that he was fired. How wonderfully appropriate.
He did a lot of good for the campus and his players and the school over many many years, but it doesn't excuse uncaring inaction that allowed god knows how many more innocent children to have their lives permanently shattered. The culture of power he was at the center of there enabled him and far too many other people to look the other way to avoid staining the program.

Everyone knows he held his legal responsibility and it sucks so much that his career now has a sh*t stain all over it. But he had to know at some point it was all going to catch up with him.
And if he didn't think it would catch up with him he is such an egomaniac it doesn't matter regardless.
Yes it sucks but I agree that there has to be a complete housekeeping done and that university both academically and athletically will be severely damaged for a few years if not more.

Did you all read about the Red Sox fan in 1991 that had to hold up a sign about how he was molested by a guy working for the Red Sox, and that they covered it up for 30 years?

Well my self i dont think Joe did anything wrong at all he told the people above him they are the ones to blame. If the person in question is guilty of doing those things to begin with. This stuff is nothing comprared to the news that Iran is trying to build a nuke. Not that i dont think they have every right to do but the US will try to use that as a excuse to mess with them and nothing good will come of it.
