I'm from Cali, but grew up in southern Indiana and I still don't like biscuits and gravy
That's because southern Indiana isn't in the south and the ones you had were probably garbage.
you could be right, but then again I don't even like gravy to begin with so THAT on top of biscuits just spells for disaster for me...

Ah, old rusty, whatever happened to it?
Mom used a cheap plastic juice glass as long as I can remember. When I grew up and moved out, I took one of the set with me for the same purpose.

Ok, question. There are two ways of making gravy, brown your sausage and add the gravy making indredients
OR
take the sausage out once it's brown and make the gravy, then add the sausage back in.
Which do you prefer? And does it really matter?

Easier to take the meat out. You don't have to dodge it while browning the gravy.
Avoids problems with flour lumps sticking to the meat, etc..

I [and several others in this area] just prefer gravy without meat. On a personal level, I'm not a huge fan of sausage - only on occasion.
Also we usually make gravy from bacon rather than sausage
