My favorite player ever...Darkspawn, Grimjack, Kelric..etc. All the same guy, a RL friend. Neither one of us was hardcore, but by God we would run a two druid group in the CM pit just for fun.

That was good shiz.

Foot Smasher was a blast as well. There was another retarded warden name Imric that I had a great deal of fun with, and a hero named Tialeigh. So long ago, I don't think any of these folks even play any more.

Most of my "epic" fun moments were with (again) some of our board members. Hell, I remember Garek fondly, even though he was a complete dick.

Horundik had a big impact on my game fun. I saw him do some crazy stuff. I saw him run out of DL (in one night), I counted 17 times where he just threw his drunk behind at the Alb zerg over and over again.

Good times.

I certainly remember Garek's flying club with a certain degree of... erm... "fondness"

I was just trying to see how many rez sick icons I could have at the same time... purely in the efforts of science and the understanding of game mechanics!

One of the funniest daoc memories I had was when Lurokian was in the guild and was trying to get skywing to embrace his beaner heritage by working at taco bell with him and having a taco bell lan party.

have just read the Memories thread from beginning to end, and I'm bummed that I *just* missed it (sort of, from the perspective of someone that hasn't been here for a loooong time).

It was great to see so many of the old names that still conjure up the excitement of RvR back in the alb milegate days.

My memory is not so hot, but my fondest memories were-

-the old school waelwulf mids trashing all comers for the first few months

-running the hib frontiers before the keep guards were introduced, by myself or with donald and an odd aliver or two. I remember Donald would hide in a tree while a stealther and I would scout out the hib frontier xp spots. Then he'd come running out of the tree looking absolutely horrifying in his plate and 2H sword, sending lurikeens streaking away like mice.

-the first little mid dwarf archer (forgot his name) to hit level 50, and him two shotting all the albs at the alb pk

-the old school smite clerics (good luck trying to get a rez, heheh)

-the very first gawaine alb keep raid (I was like level 18) when we all showed up at the keep and nobody knew how to knock the door down (turns out there was a bug that prevented us from hitting the door)

-"surfing the zerg" with <Alive> back and forth between the alb mile gate and the alb pk when hibs and garek reigned supreme

-an armsman (forgotten his name) that would stand in the woods next to the alb pk for hours and hours with his shield up, waiting for stealthers to attack him

-I remember waiting down at the lyonesse trees to get into retal's aoe grp to hit 50 (and the day he hit 50 in that grp) :-)

-Blender spam

-being mezzed for 10 minutes while the hibs killed everybody around me (no diminishing returns)

-stacking 7 <Alive> on my ass and using SoS and speed 6 to time a run through the Alb mile gate when a stealther opened the door. Also, the surprised looks on peoples faces as we came tearing through, and trying to outsprint all the hibs who would chase us. If we were successful, we'd have a riot of a time doing hit and run raids on the small hib groups trying to get from the hib gate to join the garek zerg at the alb mile gate. Those were my favorite RvR days.

-the pink minstrel

-being on an alb relic raid trying to take the hib cauldron. We finally open the tower doors but the hibs have some scary skilled players (chooch and friends) on the top floor and we are starting to lose. After most of us are dead, I hit an SoS and run up through the hibs, grab the cauldron and run all the way out. The guards near the front door of the keep spot me just as SoS runs out and beat me to death as I run down the hill, depositing the cauldron neatly at the feet of a dwarf that's just standing there at the bottom of the hill watching the fun. I'm dead and lying there and he picks up the cauldron that 200+ people have been fighting an hour for and wanders off with it. We end up negotiating with the mids to get the cauldron back, leading to the first alb-mid truces I can remember. It was a very cool feeling to wander around the alb mile gate and sit down with all the famous killer PvP mids while it was all sorted out.

-my nemesis, Rainermaria (/wave Rainer :-) )

-Jumping with some Alivers out of the backs of keeps that we were defending to find small scale battles around the edges.

-Coup Hill

I was never in any of the truly leet guilds and stayed off the boards for the most part, so most of the non-albs probably don't remember me much. I did RvR a metric ton and have fond memories of grouping with every RvR fighting alb at some point or other. The original frontiers and the Gawaine server community were fantastic, which I can appreciate a bit more now having played a few other games.

I agree with a comment that Creeping made in the original memories thread. It would be worth $50 a month to step back in time and fight the old frontiers again with the same people who played back then.

It would be cool if Mythic's new project (Warhammer Online) turned out well and brought back some subset of the old Gawaine crowd to fight together again. Until we meet again, Rainermaria!
