I disagree. Children *should* be exposed to as much violence as possible. Allow me to quote Sun Tzu, author of "The Art of War".
"Superiority lies with he who is reared in the harshest school."
To make this short, you do children no favors by sheltering them and protecting them from violence and the like. When they are grown up, they must fend for themselves. Children who run sheltered lives tend to seek out a Husband / Wife who they become totally dependent on. The whole shelter bit again. For the best shot at success in life, you should raise children to be independant.
