it is an excellent idea.where do you get off drakier? he asked if somone knew a link, not if any one approved or disapproved of it.seriously who cares if you approve or dissaprove of it.we are not required to type anything and if he wants to be courtious and say grats thats cool if not thats cool too. id like ta get it myself and 1 that says thank you. i got the game to lvl and raise attributes not chat. it is chat in general they need to remove but since its there we can be courtious and have a plugin tell em grats if we are there or not.

The plugin skirts the line between something that is used to be courtious and something that is used to minimize the chance that another player will report you for UCMing. I don't think is out of line to point out that the basic premise of a plugin could be used to violate the CoC. It is after all, a violation of VN board rules to seek assistance in breaking Turbine's CoC. I'm not saying that was the intention of the OP but it may have something to do with the comments of disapproval made by some of the other posters.

true Kyuzo it may be used by ucmers or may not. but the poster was not asking for oppinions but in fact was asking if anyone knew a link? and it is not the players job to police, report or worry about if ppl are ucm or anything at all except what they themselves are doing. the fact that ppl think we have to type anything at all ever is proposterous.in fact after 6 years i still can not type and have no desire to do so if i wanna chat aol has tons of options.

I only check the boards once every month or two but I was glad to see this.

I wrote "Grats!" It was a fun little plugin and was more fun for fellowship responses than for global (like the Aerlinthe quest). It wasn't written as a UCM helper although I find it incredibly amusing that people associate it with that.

To answer the original question, no I'm not planning on upgrading the plugin. I don't play AC anymore and haven't kept up on what it would take to update to the latest Decal. If someone wanted to take it over, I'd be happy to share the source as long as my name was carried along with the plugin as well (in addition to the new dev).

It's a plugin to spread goodwill and smiles. It's silly. It's sometimes comical. It can be annoying if misused, but isn't that the same with so many other plugins? It's a tool and like any tool can be misused or used to great effect.

I actually wasn't associating it with UCM at all... nowhere in my posts did I even meantion it's UCM uses. I simply said that an automatic "grats" if a lot of people are using it could be a bit much..

Take the worst case scenario... take the case where everyone on the server is running the plugin.

Imagine you are now in the position of getting the kill on Aerlinthe... After you get that kill, you get literally EVERY person on the server sending you a "grats" message. Don't you think that is a bit much?

And although you might claim that not everyone would ever be running it, in software development it is a common practice to always assume worst case scenario when looking at risk factors.

And you're probably right... I'm not sure many people would be running this, but since I cannot 100% claim the numbers of who would be running it, a worst case scenario is needed... and IMO, that is too much unwanted spam.

If there was a way to be able to FILTER all that spam, I'd feel SLIGHTLY better about it, but it still puts an un-needed load on the server. Why in the world would someone feel it completely necessary to send someone a "Grats" when they aren't even there.

For fellowship stuff or whatever, that is fine... it affects a minimal set of people. For something that can go server-wide, I have problems with that.

Drak, would using the bot tag in a tell filter it out?

/t %player%, Grats dude -b- or is it <b>

I can never remember. Then again lately I can't remeber what day it is. lol

As for the server load, AC supposedly runs on 200 rack mount Dell servers.

With the populations as of late, I don't think it would hurt much. ( in my opinion )

Edit---- I just reread the article I saw about the servers, it said both versions ran on 200 servers, so I guess that means AC itself doesn't have that many.

Here's the URL is anyone is interested

FYI: In the latest version, you can specify a percent chance for saying the grats message. I have the Aerlinthe one (for example) lowish (25%) and fellowship ones high (100%) by default.

The bot tags would help for those who are running plugins that can filter bot tags...

What it comes down to for me (and this goes for tradebots as well) is ... should a person have to be running a plugin to filter out that stuff? Or should people be courteous enough of their fellow players to not subject them to those things which would need filtering?

I would hope the second, but I know that in this day and age, that is becoming harder and harder to find.

But anything that would allow filtering would be better than nothing IMO.
