I was thinking about tracking the pop on all servers on a website.

I still might do it with my guild plug-in and track Darktide's pop at least.

I would be very interested in a graph tracking population samples 24/7 from everytime someone logs in.

IMO, it would be cool if perhaps the Population Filter was updated to allow for an upload URL to send the data to...

it could send data to the webserver with the world and population, and the server could do as you suggested and track that information.

It would be neat to see the trends in population numbers. Only problem would be that a number of people would have to run it in order to get semi-accurate data. With only a couple people running it, and it only being able to get data at the Char Select screen, the data wouldn't be nearly as robust.

It might be cool to try as a project. The other thing that bothers me about it is security. I wouldn't want some lame idiot to try to send fake results to skew the data. If it were done properly over a long period of time however, this information could be good for stat analysis and possible prediction of the direction of AC.

i have been thinking about that also drakier, as i hosted and checked the population numbers from the zone when that was still sort accurate. personally i think that having a client log in every so many minutes would be a nice way to do it, fake data wouldn't be a problem then. but you need a dedicated account and computer to do it, and some way to login regulary on all worlds via a script or such.

sameple every 10 minutes or so and average the hour.

ACDualClient can log in a character for you.. all you'd have to do is macro it to select the world and character (assuming the character list was updated and accurate)

*shrug*

I just think having data from more than one account would make it a lot more accurate... if every time a person logged in the data was collected, you'd have pretty accurate results... if you only gather data when YOU log in, even if scripted, it wouldn't be completely accurate.

population can change quite a bit over time.. unless you had the character logging in and out of every world every minute... which would be a little too much for the servers IMO... I just think since the data is sent to every client anyway, just jotting that down to the server would be worthwhile.

perhaps adding it to treestats might be an option, as there data is send at login anyway. shamefully updates to that plugin don't happen very often.
