I have found that most software that doesn't work 'out of the box' on x64 systems will run just fine if you set Compatibility Mode to run as WinXP. Heck, even the stupid ATI CyberLink cinema thing installs and works if you change setup to run as WinXP.

So, I have a 64bit processor.. wouldn't 64xp benefit me, even though I have 2gig of ram, and not 4?

Though.. I don't have a copy of 64bit xp *shrug*

Windows XP 64-Bit doesn't provide any benefits over 32-bit regardless of processor other than the size of the pointer it can use (and the fact that you need a 64-bit cpu to use it).

That's literally it. 64-bit pointers can address memory past 4GBs where 32-bit pointers can't.

There are really no performance increases as the cpu instruction set remains relatively unchanged.

the big problem with 64-bit XP is that not enough people are on the bandwagon yet, and not enough 64-bit apps and drivers are being released. As machiens grow and people start embracing 64-bit more, then there will be more benefit to it. It's similar to when we had the switch from 16-bit to 32-bit. Performance wise, the CPU's were pretty similar... but it unlocked ranges of memory, pointers, and hard disk that were unknown previously.
