i just built a new system and downloaded decal tonight to install and it try's to download and install dx9c, but i already have that on, and cant get it to go past the dx9c screen to install only decal.

I am running x64 without any issues. The only piece of hardware that does not work is my Logitech WebCam, but that's Logitech's fault for not releasing drivers almost at all that are 64-bit.
Everything else work prefectly.

Ouch...
I've been thinking about switching to x64 to use with my 1.8gig AMD 64 3000+. I use a Logitech optical mouse that I wouldn't do without. Would you also be saying that Logitech has no x64 drivers? If so, that'd be a real show stopper for running x64. If I had my druthers I really don't want to buy a new mouse.
For that matter, how has x64 been running for you with other software, primarily games as I figure the major apps would work. What mainstream non-Microsoft utilities, such as ZoneAlarm etc., were broken when you shifted to x64?
I guess the real question though is, how does it compare to standard WinXP sp2 in regards to speed, performance boosts etc? Is it really worth shifting over to it?

the only real advantage to 64-bit OS's right now are the larger pointer sizes.. and unless you plan on upgrading your memory to over 4gigs, then it really won't benefit you.
there are no speed performance increases other than the standard hyper-threading over single-threading thing. Having Windows XP 32-bit is really no different than having Windows XP 64-bit for most people (other than the lack of driver support).

I think they actually did make the drivers for mouses and keyboards.

Does not help at all for most people.
The big benefit is support for more than 4 Gigs of memory. So unless you got more 4 gigs of memory and you run enough apps at the same time so that the OS can actually put all this memory to use, then it is of no benefit. Of course, you have to weigh this with the problem of. Great I have all this memory. I loaded 483 tasks in my 16 Gigs of memory and the PC is running like a tortoise because it has too much work to do.
Eventually we will see apps that require more than 4 Gigs of memory (virtual and main). At which point, there will be a fully functional OS. Plus hopefully cost effective PCs with a lot of memory 16+ Gigabytes.

i finally got decal working last night after quite a bit of googling.
i have a logitech mx 1000 mouse, it runs fine, but i agree with everyone else, no good reason to upgrade to 64. i only did it because i needed to buy a new full OS package and figured i might as well go 64bit.
i have found some programs that dont work on xp64, itunes, avg free and zone alarm dont work on 64, zone alarm is working on a new package that will. avg 7.1 does and itunes did, but the new version doesnt. i'd say apple is shooting themselves in the foot, but i think they missed and hit themselves in the butt. guess you could call that "brain damage"

More and more "stuff" will be written for x64. We had the same issues when 95 came out. 64-bit games will probably lead the way.

Thanks for the info...
It doesn't sound like there's much benefit to using x64, at least not with my current program mix. I guess I'll take a pass on it for now.
