Where/what is a good resource on how to get started with Decal for an experienced game programmer who's never played AC?

What are the basics of developing plugins for Decal? What languages can be used? Is there anything out there that makes developing easier or faster, especially on the UI side of things? Or any tips/tricks/hints that posters here have?

I visited the official website, but the most useful pages state they need to be updated to be correct for Decal 3.

Thanks!

A knowledge of how the game works helps, but check out http://www.decaldev.com and the forums

What is your programming expereince first off. A Decal plugin should not be yur first attempt at programming.

why not? , my first program was a decal app , sure it didnt do much but it did what i needed to.

with the guides out , there is nothing to prevent people trying it out , as long as one dont exept any help on the way from the "public" devs.

My boyfriend is a game programmer by profession, and wants to write a few plugins for me. He's been programming games and game tools for 15 years. I know for sure that he knows C/C++ and C#, at least. He does expect a learning curve though.

He has played WoW but no other MMOs and has only seen me play AC, all of his AC knowledge is going to come from me, and from his own testing of what he writes.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of plugins is he planning on writing? I recall a whileback, you mentioned on LC that a plugin that tells you if any if your equipment's inactive would be useful, and I was working on one at the time. I released Squire a while back, which does this.

I've got a couple of other plugins in the works at the moment, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's entirely possible that what you're looking for is already out there, or will be soon.

oh, great news, I'll definitely look into your plugin

What I am most interested in is a house alarm style plugin, but I asked for that a while back and no one knew of any public one.

Because it is better to learn how to use the language correctly first, then worry about programming for Decal second.

Head to the Decal forums: http://forums.acdev.org/phpBB2/index.php

and look at doing something in C# would be my suggestion to him.

well i did it for fun not to learn a language, if you have to know everything before doing something you get nowhere., and no i still dont know how to code
