I am making changes to HWAC Stats based on suggestions by others and I have a few questions on how you all would like to see things work.

1) The first and biggest suggestion was to have a sort function by skill.

A) How should the skills be listed in the drop down window?

a) Alphabetical order.

b) group them by skill/attribute type?

ie Defence skills, Combat skills, Trade Skill, Magic Skills.

B) Should the skill level be listed in the window after you sort by it?

If yes,

a) should I put the skill in parenthesis next to the name?

b) should I add a column with the header being the skill name?

I am leaving the headers of each column as a sort option, and if you do click on them the new sort fields will update.

2) Do you think there should be a link to the characters allegiance tree from the list page?

3) I have added an option for the admin to change the default sort when you first enter the list page. Right now the options are by name or by level. Do you think anything else should be added as an option?

4) I will be adding total xp, unassigned xp, augmentations and some other items to the Character pages. I have to come up with a complete list.

Should things like Burden, Vitae, Skill Credits, and Server be listed on the character pages?

I added a search, for right now and it may stay this way depending on what people say it is a very simple search by character name. It is not case sensitive and the full name must be typed in. Let me know your thoughts on this..

I added the option to have the allegiance tree lines to be black or gray, this is also admin controlled. This is so you can see them if your background color hides the grey lines.

Here is a link to what I have so far.

*Keep in mind this is my testing area, so if it does not work it just means I am testing things right now.

-- My vote would be alphabetical, however grouping them would be very logical.

-- I would think a column.

2) Do you think there should be a link to the characters allegiance tree from the list page?

-- I wouldn't use it, but some in my allegiance probably would.

4) I will be adding total xp, unassigned xp, augmentations and some other items to the Character pages. I have to come up with a complete list.

Should things like Burden, Vitae, Skill Credits, and Server be listed on the character pages?

-- I'd consider a "More Details" link that opens a small window for those additional details.

-- You might consider a partial name search for those that are looking for a character but don't know the correct spelling.

Another feature that would be cool to me is a character comparison (head-to-head type of thing). I'd like to see how my progress measures up to other characters.

It's looking pretty sweet so far Riaf, keep up the good work!

----- I will code it so the Admin of the site can choose which he/she would like.

In the old MeginStats, being a competitive person, I was always interested in the attributes and skills of the other Sword characters in my guild, and how my character compared to them. I tryed to keep myself near the top of those lists!

I'll use this when that feature is added

Yes the color scheme is painful but you got it. But we can control the colors on our own website.

Chazcon is correct in that you control the colors by changing the style sheet (css).

At the end of the read me file there is a description of most of the tags.

This is an example of how you can make it look.

If you need help matching it to your web site let me know on the www.tworocks.com forums and if/when I have time I would be more than happy to give you a hand in changing things to match you web site.

I need some help to come up with a good way to pick the characters for comparison.

1)I could put a check box next to the names on the list page.

- I do not like this idea as it would make the list page a bit cluttered. (I like clean and neat pages), but this would be the easiest way of doing it.

2)Put a link to a new page with limited information on it.

ie

Name, Level, Skill Level based on the sort that the user picked, and a check box.

This new page would not have a search.

As far as the compare page:

1)I could list the attributes/skills side by side with the skills in alphabetical order and just put a tag next to the skills to indicate specialized, trained and untrained skills.

or

2)List them as I do now but put one character per column, keeping in mind that one character may have different specialized skills than the other so some things will not line up side by side.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks..

Hi Riaf,

For the comparison, I would consider putting it on the character details page instead and try one of these options:

1. Maybe at the top right it could say "Compare To:" with a drop down list of all the other characters available.

-or-

2. A link that opens a small window with the same look and feel as your listing page, but with very limited info and the names are simply clickable to the comparison page.

With this method, or something along these lines, only one other character can be selected and you can exclude the current character from the comparison list.

As far as the comparison page, I think your second idea is the best solution for now. The amount of information you compare is probably not an issue if you keep the layout narrow and simply let it scroll down the page farther than the single character details page.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Remember:

KISS

Many times over-thinking a problem will cause you to go beyond your first 'take' on it, which is usually correct, and actually settle on a lesser solution.

I would just replicate what MeginStats did - you had it right in the previous example. Just a simple ranking by attribute or skill, a search feature, and links to navigate the allegiance tree.

I do not see the need for Buffed skills, I wouldn't count them as reliable information, as there are too many variables.

My 2 cents worth.
