Author Topic: GoArrow/Decal - crashes acclient. [Locked]

I can't say for sure that this problem is due to GoArrow or only appears that way because of the frequency I use GoArrow (compared to other plugins).

When I click on the icon (for GoArrow) in the Decal bar - the acclient crashes to desktop. It does not happen everytime, and it seems like I can reinstall GoArrow and it will stop happening for a short period of time.

Very frustrating since it's not easily reproduceable. Out of the 40+ times it's happened, it was a click on GoArrow icon everytime (but GoArrow is 98% of my decal useage as well - hence why I am not sure it's GoArrow).

export to follow.

I don't know if I can live without my GoArrow!

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like the same issues I was having, but mine was due to having limited video ram (only 32 meg). It looks like you've got plenty so that is probably not your issue.

I notice your launcher app is dual client. How many clients are you running? If you are running more than one client then I believe your video card memory gets split. Part of it goes to your desktop and then each client uses some of it.

Thanks for having a look.

I've only recently tried out the dual client. The problem outlined above was happening long before the dual launcher was installed, and still happens when I have only the single client running (launched in traditional style).

AC crashing when you click on the GoArrow view is a good indication that you're running out of video memory. Each GoArrow HUD that's open uses up video memory, and GoArrow's Decal view is relatively complex and uses a fair amount of video memory. So if you have the surface map, dungeon map, arrow, and GoArrow toolbar all open when you click on the GoArrow icon, you'll be using a significant amount of video memory.

I'd recommend not opening both the surface map and dungeon map at the same time. If it still happens, you may want to make sure that neither map is open when you click the GoArrow icon on the decal toolbar. Lowering AC's texture quality to High instead of Very High can help as well.

You can also check errors.txt in the GoArrow folder to see if there are any errors reported there, in case it in fact isn't a video memory issue. However, I've not known GoArrow to completely crash AC in any other case.

Hi Dig,

I don't use the dungeon map, these clicks causing crashes were simply to open the basic interface and do a route search to some location (fairly low overhead?). The on screen arrow would have been running in most/all cases as well.

I will try lowering the vid setting and see if it makes any difference.

Here is the only entry in the error log.

That error happens when there isn't enough video memory to create the HUD, so it sounds like that's the problem.

It is kind of odd though - I have 256 MB of video ram myself, and I can run one client at the highest video settings at 1680x1050 resolution and GoArrow up on one monitor while watching a video on the other without any problems. I do run into problems if I run two clients at full resolution and try to use the GoArrow maps.

Single client running here, and not maxed video settings either. Anything else I can try before lowering graphics settings?

Is it only clicking on the box to open the HUD?

If so (and this is a very crude bypass), you can use text commands to do most things GoArrow can do, I believe. At least it'll possibly keep you in game, although it's not a fix by any means.

By the way, I've had similar crashed when opening Dungeon maps (that are uncached), I believe it's most likely a purely memory/video issue, although I'm no pro... My suggestion is to close everything but GoArrow, load up the maps your most likely to use/use the most, and keep them in cache, that way when you open the map, there shouldn't be a problem. Again, this is purely a bypass and who knows whether that will help...
