Yula- "The basic problem is that your character is too weak."

Its late and I'm tired, can you please show me where the OP says anything about their character other than being a melee?

I think it would be easy... since u go straight from magic mode to melee mode... so as soon as the weapon is equipped just equip the shield automatically before attempting to heal or anything

Plugin would take longer to do this.

What your asking for is 3 steps for a plugin to perform.

step 1: put wand into main pack.

step 2: wield Shield.

step 3: wield weapon.

Currently.

Step 1: wield Weapon ( which automatically puts caster away).

Step 2: wield Shield.

Now if AC was willing to put caster away when you wield a shield then what you want is viable.

Migy_AC - Yula brings up a valid point.

If your character is hunting someplace where switching weapons or wands and you die in the time it takes to shift, its possible you shouldn't be hunting there. There might be a glaring flaw in your template if you can't cope with the mobs without at least a 24% melee mod or a shield in front of you. If a switch gets you so beaten up, WTF don't you have healing or carry chugs? Problem solved.

Hunting in EO in a robe sounds cool, but no amount of plugin can keep you alive if you don't have a beast of a template.

Sometimes you have to accept the fact that just because all the cool kids are in a dungeon doesn't mean you can hang out there too. Graveyard is an awesome place that proves this fact. I play a fairly durable Chef, stop snickering, and I rarely die because I actively make decisions about what I am doing and I know what my limitations are. I know trying to hunt the graveyard at night solo is certain death, that I'm best served hunting the fringe of the graveyard taking on mostly grave rats, I can beat them senseless very quickly and they aren't much of a threat. I know if I pull a pyre skeleton I need to pull back away some because its gonna kill me more often than not and I still have to recover and its easier to recover on the edge than in the middle I know I can sit solo in the pit in POTB and survive fairly well as long as my food stuffs hold out. I know things that throw rocks hurt alot, I know a corner is a good place to be. I know I have problems going very deep into EO, I still need to work on my melee d and my armor.

So if I know I can't do it, I try something else. Someday I might be uber enough to sit in the middle of graveyard and hunt everything, but a plugin won't do it for me if I can't survive there myself with my fingers.

It might be time for some of the people who use LifeTank to actually actively play the game and find their own limitations and faults in their template and work towards adjusting them so they can hunt where they want to rather than blame the tool.

Like alot of PC tech problems the problem more often than not is between the chair and the keyboard.

I asked a simple question about the last sentence in the Yula's post. About the assumption that was made. I was even careful to word it in a way that wasn't demeaning or insulting, or engineered as flame bait.

Thanks for the lecture on how to play. I've read it 2 or 3 times and still can't find the answer to my question.

I know I have limited reading comprehension, and an even more limited knowledge of how this game works.

When the Op said this... " If a shield is pulled before attempting to heal... it will fix this ", my limited reasoning skills led me to believe that if you were going to wield a shield , then heal, you must have healing trained.

But since you stated "If a switch gets you so beaten up, WTF don't you have healing or carry chugs? Problem solved."

I know I must be mistaken.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Ok.... how I manage to survive, using lifetank as is, as a melee.

1. Get your melee spec/max

2. Get that weapon of choice +13 or better inherent melee D, with the imbue and 9 bags of Brass on it. (and the skill spec/max)

3. No Wield Wand, as above, but with 10 bags of brass on it.

4. Maxxed Mana C // Maxxed Healing. Say what you will, but I see more healing, and more stamina - both - with this combo, per cast.

5. In EO (for example) I do not bother with a shield at all. In the melee tab, I set my weapon as both weapon and shield.

Clearly if not high enough level to max/spec all of the above stay higher in the EO and work your way down as the skills come up to speed.

Migy_AC - let me make it more clear...

Why a melee would stop everything, give up their shield, pull out a wand and cast a spell to heal when they could eat something or use a healing hit and not take as much damage boggles the mind.

Its more likely they don't have tank configured to use any other healing than magic.

So my idea of maybe you shouldn't be hunting there, is true.

If you can't stay alive there playing how you play than its time to move elsewhere or look at your flaws.

The flaw would be, I don't know how to configure tank.

The flaw would be, I don't use healing.

The flaw would be, I don't use chugs.

The flaw would be, I'm a melee template trying to play mage.

And then it might just be the arogance of the original poster demanding this be fixed so that the way they use tank works better... when they way they are using it makes no sense to any logical minded person.

but then what do I know, I play a chef...

wubbie - YMMV

I also don't see where they say they use a wand to heal.

I assumed they were referring to the swap from a brassed wand while buffing to weapon/sheild. I based that assumption on the wording of the post. Let me try and break it down, then maybe I will understand.

"OP- A melee... when going from wand to weapon gets hit alot. "

ok they are switching from wand to melee, i was thinking after buffs but who knows?

"OP-Why not make the melee pull a shield FIRST then freakin heal himself."

can't cast heal with a sheild out... can use a kit though

"OP- By the time he gets out of magic mode he is left with like 1/2 health or less.. then tried to heal in peace mode and gets hit even more..."

last I checked, LT doesn't goto peace mode to "wand" heal...

I agree they were arrogant in the way they demanded it be "fixed" I also agree that something must be wrong, and it is likely a setting.

Though it could also be something simple , like they don't pay attention, and loot everything in sight, causing drastic melee d reductions due to burden.

For me, its usually spines/carapaces and elixers that I loot that pile up unnoticed until I'm suddenly getting whacked hard, that or I forgot to swap out my critter girth for my acid ward one. ( again for the 100th time)

But what do I know.

The character I played in beta and remade opening day was a 3 school Gharu sword melee dood. All trained, no speced, because the curve was borked. Speced skills were a waste in the long run, you only got like 5 more points than trained at the time.

Back then I got lectures on how illogical the template was and how screwed I would be especially at higher levels.

Oh, and I didn't get healing 'til 60 on that build, and I did pull a wand to heal. Seriously.

I don't think in a linear manner. My thoughts tend to skip around like a butterfly in a crosswind.

When it comes to logic, I grasp the concept. I must, I passed that part of digital electronics back in high school. ;P

Oh, and I count in binary too. Not the electronic type mind you. Lets just say, NEVER hold a lit firecracker in your clenched fist. <-- Joke

To use logic to deduce the actual problem we need more info, we have the bare basics but there are many variables. Until then, we are both speculating about parts of whats going on.

Short list of variables

Critter type? Melee? Caster? Chucker? Some of both/all?

Does player have the defenses to match the offense?

AL on armor?

Buffs/Baned?

Majors/wards?

Kits/pots set up and turned on ( in LT)?

Heal slider set at?

Emergency heal set at?

Burden?

Vit?

If buffing in a spawn area, does player have back in a corner to minimize the penalty for hits to the back, and the numbers hitting him at once?

LOL after typing all this I think its simply the OP has the heal slider set too low.

When buffed/sheilded they don't get hit for much so the lower heal setting works fine, shields still up for normal heals.

Then its buff time, they whip out the brassed wand, get hit for more, but go through their buff cycle.

Buff finish. Lt goes to switch to melee setup.

Once mod from wand drops, effective melee drops. Hits are more frequent.

Lt drops to peace mode to heal, but its already too late.

By that reasoning, they merely need to increase it so they heal sooner/ more often.

And use blue kits.

Or they are in over their heads
