I have been searching the boards and everything I see isn't working for me. updated windows about 10 times and now it finally says there are no new updates tryed to do the drivers but it said there are no drivers new for my hardware unless I just used the wrong link. Was working fine a couple days ago something happened to the comp where ac wouldn't even load so I had to reboot everything and now I am stuck with this. Yes ac does work with out decal running and no it does not work with all the plug ins turned off.

Two things that I see could cause a problem. Its worth trying at least. First update your video card drivers that are a couple years out of date. I provided the link below.

Next, try disabling that vbscript filter. If you get the same results just re-enable it.

It's odd that it says you don't have DirectX 9 Installed. Have you tried going to http://www.microsoft.com/directx and downloading the latest version?

The driver update worked but the other one comes up with this error.

A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid.

and it shuts down.

Under Windows XP, ensure that the Cryptographic Services are enabled and running:

Right-click on My Computer

Click on Manage

Expand Services and Applications

Click on Services

Right-click on Cryptographic Services

Click on Properties

Set the Startup type to Automatic

This is a big article but this should help. I'll try to skim through it in a bit and see if i can find anything that would pertain to your problem.

Try the last suggestion on the link below. Registering the dll's again would be the first thing I would try, and there is nothing it can hurt.

I got a similar problem. However, I'm using Vista.

The problem sorta "evolved" though. I just installed vista ultimate on my new setup, and when all drivers etc was installed (newest mobo, sound and gfx drivers) - i shifted my eyes towards AC.

AC starts nicely without a hitch. However Decal wouldn't show up in-game even though it reported no problems.

I thought this might have something to do with Drakkiers dual-client (as I simply copied the old dir with everything - including the dual-client files). So I installed dual-client. As soon as I then launched AC from dual-client (with decal loaded) I would start getting 2 DX9 errors as described by the author of this thread. But it would still let me load the game. But still no decal in-game.

I then unsinstalled everything in an attempt to get the dx9 errors away when launching AC. So I uninstalled Dual Client, decal and all plugins. AC still launches fine.

However, with a re-install of decal I'm now stuck with the dx9 error every time i start to launch AC with decal loaded. It works fine without decal.

Here's my export:

And the line "[d3dx9_30.dll] : Not Installed" is indeed present. Anyone got an indea what causes this in vista? not to hi-jack this thread, but the problems might be related.

In my case the line "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)" is also all wrong. I use Vista Ultimate (32bit).

EDIT: The wrong OS version repported was because of me playing with compatability mode. With it off, it reports the OS as "Professional (Build 6000)". Everything is the same though.

EDIT AGAIN: Never mind - I got this working by installing DirectX9. What confused me, was that this was not needed on my media center. But apparently something wasn't similar between the two pretty similar installs.

Ok yesterday was quite frustrating so I didn't post anything on here but here is the jist of it. Tried ever thing on that page besides the in place install or what ever it was with reinstalling xp. I got on chat with a Sony tech and he told be the same thing about the dll's just in a different fashion. Still no luck. I tried to get on chat with the Microsoft guys but they just told me send them an e-mail. Guess he was too busy. I will see what I get back from there when I get home tomorrow but if still no luck looks like I will go back to square one and reformat everything again. And I thought it was a pain putting ac on my two comps with vista. While I am at it maybe I can manage to upgrade the video card too lol.
