There are several steps we have to do before run the AC Dual Client from Drakier.com:


Before you install the AC Dual Client,


1. Please download .NET Framework v1.1 (http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/a/c/aac39226-8825-44ce-90e3-bf8203e74006/dotnetfx.exe) and install it. Otherwise the AC Dual Client cannot install properly.


2. Please disable the UAC in Windows Vista. Otherwise the AC Dual Client cannot access some folders.


Then u can install the AC Dual Client. Then the program will ask you how many clients will operate at the same time. For example I choose 3, the program then will copy all files of AC to other folders for 2 times. (..\2 and ..\3).


After files copying complete, you may try to run the AC Dual Client. U may discover that sometimes the connection may lose after the character pass the portal. If this problem exists, please copy all AC files from another folder (e.g. copy from 2nd folder to 1st folder if the first character has problem, and vice versa).


The last problem is LifeTank: The system may prompt the *.ocx file cannot update blah blah blah. Please use the following method:


In Command Prompt, type:


regsvr32 /u /s mswinsck.ocx


Then the LT will work properly.

Several notes:


It's a better idea to download .NET Framework Redist from http://www.microsoft.com/net as Microsoft download site links aren't known for their stability (a bit like MSDN, really). It's a maze, but at least you can guarantee you can eventually get to what you want.


Disabling UAC is a last ditch effort unless you actually know what you're doing. My suggestion: DO NOT DO IT. You can configure it (AC Dual Client) to always run elevated from the compatibility tab of the shortcut properties. Alternatively, do not install AC, Dual Client, or Decal (or for that matter any plugins) within Program Files, as this is the part that causes all the issues.

This is a very good point and probably one that should be stressed more often with Vista installs.


Chosing a seperate \Games\ directory for all your installs will save you quite a bit of grief, as many installations expect to be able to write into their installed directory... But Vista doesn't like that so much


I recently moved all of LifeTankX's config/logs/writes into the users My Documents folder for just that reason.

I also don't think that that regsvr32 thing can work with Vista 64 bit, but I ave not confirmed this.

It should work - Decal, AC, Dual Client, and all plugins are compiled 32-bit, so there's nothing stopping it.

Along with running dual log on my Vista x64, mine also works with Decal excellently!




A couple of possible minor notes tho. I frist got everything going on my AC on Vista x64. Then I installed what I needed for Decal utilities and had them running properly. Finally after AC and Decal were stable in operation, I installed the ACDual and work in window mode with AC. Everything works like a charm.
