yeah I downloaded that, but the redistributeable comes with a ton of versions. I'm not sure if I installed it correctly. Is there a way to check?
Last time I ran this installation (in the past hour), it had only one version in it.
Quick review of runnning this installation ..
(1) When you run the "directx_feb2010_redist.exe", the window that opens is a zip extraction (after the first window with accepting the license agreement). This extraction will deploy all the installation files needed for installing DirectX. (Looking at the names of the files would give you the feeling of "ton of versions".) The default folder location for the extraction is buried in the TEMP folder. You can extract the files to ANY folder you wish .. it does not need to be in the TEMP folder. Extract the files to a place where it is easy for you to find.
(2) Go to that folder in Windows Explorer and run the "DXSETUP.exe". (Microsoft could had done this in a easier way!) Accept all the default answers.
(3) Restart the computer. The installation does not come out and say "restart", but, in example, Windows 7 will indicate there is a update to run ..
(4) To validate it, select the Start Menu, Run, and enter the command "dxdiag". Give it a minute to look over your computer (bar in the lower left corner). Then select the "Next Page" or click on the "Display" tab at the top. Verify that your "Direct3D Acceleration" is Enabled under the "DirectX Features". If not, see the notes below that.
