I work from home, so it gives me the chance to ACM quite often.

Sometimes my chars can go 8+ hours no problem.
Sometimes I can go for several 8 hour sessions in a row without issue.
Sometimes I go a few hours and a couple clients will crash at the same time.

Only the combat clients crash.

If the client is a vendor its fine.
If the client is just a follower, its fine.

My friend has a similar problem as well.

The only plugins we run are vtank and alinco.
It doesn't seem to matter what OS/PC we use.

I've talked to others who can macro a handful of clients endlessly without issue.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

How much memory do you have in your PC? Because of (Decal) memory leaks, each client can grow to >1GB in size after a long time of killing. Running out of memory always causes a client crash.

For the record, using just my bundle (with Decal views off), I NEVER have a client crash.

Hey VI, once again, AWESOME WORK!

On my main ring, its:
Windows 7 x64
Intel i7 960 @ 3.2Ghz
Asus Rampge II extreme
8GB RAM
Intel SSD Extreme HD (ROCKS!!!)
ATI 5870 gfx card

When you say decal views off, what is that? I am also using your bundle, but only load the vtank combat macro portion.

When you say you NEVER have a crash, what are your system and network specs? Whats the longest you usually macro for?

With 7 clients going, 3 of which are combat, windows says I have
4.8GB in use
2GB in standby
1.2GB free

I crash every so often though even with just 3 clients going.

I would almost swear it was net based. I used to macro with a different router and my clients, even on seperate computers, would often crash at the same exact time. Now, with a new router, things are much more stable.

My buddy just switched his router and now things are crashing much more often.

I could try upping the RAM, but I think trying a higher end Cisco router might be the ticket. Right now I'm using a mid-end Netgear router behind a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.

fwiw, I'm a dev too, and have developed a few decal plugins. My day job is C#.

Thanks for the reply!

Hey VI, I've been monitoring the system actively, and with 3 clients in combat and 4 in non-combat, with the memory #'s close to what I've posted, 2 of the combat macros crashed at the same time, all other clients were unaffected.

I'll drop another 8GB in the system bringing it to 16GB and give that a try, but I'm not very optimistic.

Oh, I should also add, on the combat clients, looting and navigation are disabled in vtank.

Ahh, thats Decal with the leak? I've definately noticed that. Get crashes, but just kinda live with it. I tend to randomly just close my clients and start them up again when the mood hits to help.

I will randomly crash too. I purposely make sure to reset often to prevent this. I have 8 gigs in my system using Vista Ultimate. My friend with windows XP has the exact same problem. One interesting issue i do have, and it happens often enough not to be a coincidence, is that on both of my PCs, AC will crash at the exact same time. Once again two separate PCs and two separate accounts will both crash at the same time. This seems to happen when there is a lot of network activity going on.

I've seen that same exact thing, and only with my combat clients.. When using two PC's, one client on each PC, every so often both AC's will crash at the same exact time! haha, so weird.

It has to have something to do with actually killing things.

I have a tradebot running on an uber-ancient laptop (512M memory/shared video) and it's been up for like 4 days non-stop now. Doubt I could get a few hours out of it if I was actually doing something on it.

Little info to add to this thread....

I have been macroing a dagger character using a quest dagger that casts a bunch of spells when equipped, and a gear shield, which casts spells when equipped. I recently trained two hand for macroing purposes and am using a plain 350 wield weapon that has no spells on it.

While using the two hand weapon, my macro runs with no crashing. When I switch up and use dagger/shield it goes back to crashing.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Well, early in the week I put 24 gigs DDR3 in my box, and it seems to have made a difference.

I can have 6 combat clients going, can mess with my pack, run around, etc.. manually play, then ACM, sit at the LS and in the morning start up again w/o having to restart AC and everything seems to be good.

Windows 7 is really nice for showing your mem usage.

Take note though, even if it says you have a gig or so of "Standby" memory, its really the Free memory that you need for AC. Or at least, that's what my testing has shown. Previously with 8 gig in the system, and 2 gig of standby available, and free almost gone, AC would still crash.

Now I have 8gb in use, 2 in standby, and 14gig free.

To add though to this issue, talking with another friend of mine who also is pretty computer savvy, we both seem to think that the router you use can exaggerate the problem.

For me though, win7 x64 + 24gb = heaven.
