Report from Day Two (sorta) of My Nightmare:
(1) I uninstalled everything - AC, Decal and AC Dual Client.
(2) I downloaded AC from Turbine's site and installed it into a subdirectory of C:\Games. It did not run.
(3) I gave AC firewall access. It ran.
(4) I downloaded AC Dual Client and installed it into a subdirectory of C:\Games.
(5) I downloaded WhereAC and installed it into a subdirectory of C:\Games.
(6) I created 4 subirectories for AC and copied all of the files of the main AC directory into all of the subdirectories. I also gave firewall access to ACclient.exe and ACLauncher.exe from each of the subdirectories, just to be certain.
(7) I logged in to AC through ACDC on one account. I got a character screen, then logged in a character successfully.
(8) I logged in to AC through ACDC on a second account. I got a character screen, then logged in, only to yellow link, red link, then get kicked out.
(9) I tried again while running WhereAC to monitor the results. For the second account the port read 9005 and the path was correct.
(10) I tried turning off auto port and entering in ports 9000, 9005, 9010, 9015 and 9020 for each account. For the second account, I got a character screen, then logged in, only to yellow link, red link, then get kicked out. WhereAC showed the right path but no port.
(11) I tried turning off auto port and using the other (auto port check?) option. Similarly, when I tried to log in on the second account, WhereAC showed the right path but no port.
(12) I installed AC alone (from discs) on a second computer connected to the same homegroup/router also running Windows 7 into a subdirectory of C:\Games. It did not run.
(13) I gave AC firewall access. It ran.
(14) I got to the character screen and logged in a character successfully.
(15) I exited from the second computer and logged into the game on my first computer again. I then tried to log into the game on the second computer. I could access the character screen (I think); but when I logged in I got yellow link, red link, then got kicked out.
(16) I edited the .ini file on the second computer to set the port to 9005. I could access the character screen (I think); but when I logged in I got yellow link, red link, then got kicked out.
Then I started to search the Net once more for solutions.
(17) I tried installing NET Framework 1.1 and the Service Pack, even though there have been issues with Windows 7. Having these present seemed to preclude ANY access to the game, so I uninstalled them.
When I gave up last night in sorrow and frustration, I had managed to return to my starting point: I can access the game on one account (whether using AC DC or not), apparently on port 9000.
I was hoping that I could win the lottery last night so I could fly Drakier (or some other sage) from wherever they live to Toronto to fix this for me. No such luck.
I will continue to seek advice and/or search the Net and/or consult Turbine, but my patience is not infinite.
I NEED to play this game on multiple accounts at the same time. I BOUGHT my new computer largely so I could handle recent graphics changes in AC. I will be VERY IRRITATED if I can't fix this soon. I may very well QUIT the game as a result and Turbine will lose the monthly revenue from 5 accounts.
I am posting all of this partly so that when/if I quit people will at least understand that I did everything possible to keep playing before I left.
