Sorry I am just confused and depressed about this.


Saturday I fire up AC and decal for the first time in 4 months. Everything is fine except VTank. I later find out it is because the single VTank no longer works and I need the bundle.


But before I discover that I uninstall/reinstall decal which totally breaks decal? Decal was originally in it's default programs file folder but it worked anyway. Now when I reinstall to that default folder it won't update. So I reinstall again in it's own folder and it updates. But now AC won't recognize it.


I know nothing about the innerworkings of computers but I am pretty sure it is likely something simple like a switch or a setting but I just can't figure out what that is.


When I get home tonight I will start again from scratch. I hope someone can steer me right otherwise I fear my 11 year AC journey will have come to a final end which I don't really want but will have to accept.


I am truly appreciative of all of the help and ideas that have been offered.

Do a clean install of Decal..

1. Close Decal Agent by right-clicking the Decal icon in your taskbar and choosing Exit.
2. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any plugins you have installed.
3. Uninstall Decal.
4. Delete your Decal installation folder.
5. Run RegEdit.exe, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Decal, select it, and hit Delete. If you're not sure how to do this, download and run CleanDecalReg.exe (http://skunkworks.sourceforge.net/misc/CleanDecalReg.exe).
6. Install CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) and run it to remove any temp files
7. Reboot
8. Download and install the latest version of Decal (link in the sticky)
a. next
b. click checkbox
c. Custom
d. Browse...
e. Choose a directory like c:\games\decal
f. Follow the rest of the prompts
9. Reinstall your plugins and choose the c:\games directory for all of the installs

explorer aslo known as IE 6, 7 or 8 the window into your computer for finding files ect


once you find the pluging exe you right click on the file name and bring up the PROPERTIES window. go to compatability and make the adjustments to the file - that is compatablity tab check RUn this program im compat mode windows XP sp 2 and click on the privilege level to run program as administrator.


when you install/ed decal you were given an option to point decal to the location of your AC files directory. failing to do this may be the reason 'ac' is failing to recoginize decal.

When you get to this step, the VERY LAST THING you will see will be a window asking for the location of your AC install. Make sure you don't skip over this step.


The problem you are having is pointing to this being the culprit.

I followed these instructions exactly. Still doesn't work Still get same meassage that AC cliet is out of date (yes I have new patch). I will try one more time from scratch tommorrow and if that doesn't work I guess I have to call it a career.

Are you running Decal/AC as Administrator (right click and run as administrator on both).

Decal failing to show up in AC is usually because of:


1) It is failing to inject properly


2) Interop assemblies not properly being removed from the Global Assembly Cache, which is a more complicated problem and not one that most people on this board are aware of. When you have 2 copies of the Decal Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) then the .NET service will fail to load and this causes Decal itself to fail.


If Decal isn't injecting properly, ACDualClient can actually fix this problem as it has its own inject method which is different from both of the Decal methods.
