like i said, anything that is over max bd8 max damage will trip and pick up. (any sword that hits 68 buffed damage or greater)

anything that equals to max bd8 with average variance will trip and pick up. (any sword that hits 67 buffed damage with average or better variance regardless of cantrips)

If i set buffed tinked damage to 95.55 (which is what i want) it would still pick up the same stuff as my rules.

The only thing buffedtinkeddamage would do for me is reduce my rules by 1 rule per weapon type.

I'm not trying to argue, I just don't see how it's missing things.

I'm not arguing. I did not spend the time to go over all your rules, I just glanced.

Based on what you just said though, what about weapons that have even lower damage (66 sword) but perfect variance?

they suck, and i don't want them...

If you look at my 5:25 post, you'll see that even 1 damage less than max with perfect variance is less DOT than max damage with below average variance.

Don't get me wrong however, I do think the buffedtinkeddamage is a more elegant solution to this, it's just harder to use for the same result.

32.33 - 61 BD8 Major BT = .47 var = 96.11 dot = best variance
23.56 - 62 bd8 Major BT = .63 var = 95.84 dot = worst possible var

That's a difference of 1-2 granite tinks.

At that damage level, the difference between 96.11 and 95.84 is negligible, but I see what you're saying. It's still lower.

Without going over your rules though, using he buffed maxdamage, there must be a combination of damage/variance that surpasses your target DoT that you or missing, OR some of your rules are set a little lower than your true target DoT.

This is all for PvE though. For PvP people probably just go for buffed max damage and call it a day, although i'm not sure as I don't PvP.

I don't think there is a combination that is better, the moment you take 1 damage off the top end, even with perfect variance it's less than max top with below average variance.

When you add 1 damage to the top, even with the worst possible variance, it's still better than a max top with average variance.

Do you know all the possible variance #'s swords can drop with?

Nice Variance page Bob. I was just going to post to remind the two of you that variance comes in four flavors for 1H weapons, not three, but then I saw the link to the Variance wiki page.

Honestly BuffedTinkedAvgDamage (or whatever it is currently called) and BuffedMaxDamage are pretty interchangeable if you take the second step (as Bob has) of adding variance requirements as well. They're both fairly elegant solutions, and much better than my old profile which had separate rules to catch major/epic BT items.

Who wants to make a line chart for each of the possible variance #'s plotting a max damage vs DoT graph.

Someone make one.
