2.9.6.5 is the recommended release, even though its labeled as beta.

They'll fix that for you if you work with them.

Please post up so they can work with you to get it fixed.

The issue is .5 users with the issue aren't working with the devs on a resolution.

It would be helpful to have a guide on how to upgrade from 2.9.6.0 to 2.9.6.5. I tried and cannot get it to run on my established machines, so I stopped trying. I'd be happy to bugtest if I could get it to work.

Uninstall Decal

Run CleanDecalReg as regular user and as admin

I just upgraded, and it went very smooth - I was braced for problems that never happened.

Machine is Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, install path was C:\Games\Decal 3.0

I made a copy of the Decal 3.0 folder, and backed it up. I then used add/remove programs to remove Decal 2.9.6.9. I did -NOT- use any reg cleaner (hope that's not a problem going forward). I installed 2.9.6.5, using Custom Install and changed install path to C:\Games\Decal 3.0

When it was done, my shortcut on the desktop was already configured to run in XP SP 2 compatibility, and Run as Administrator. Same setting were on DenAgent in the main Decal folder. During install, Kaspersky did ask if I wanted to allow/trust the application, I confirmed. After install, Decal was already running in my systray, so I loaded it, it complained of old XML files, I updated, fired up Dual Log, logged in. Everything was there, no issues, except ALL my plugins loaded, which meant Plugin Manager wasn't working. A search of the boards revealed that there was an update available (thanks Bob!). Used add/remove to remove Plugin Manager, re-installed the update, re-logged in, and all was perfect. LTx ran excellent too.. first thing I had to do was dual log a Bellas killing, and then log in alts to loot him. No problems at all so far..

Thanks, Haz, but that didn't work for me I've tried all I know how to do and can't get it working. I uninstalled everything including all my plugins. I've tried 2.9.6.5 with different options in Decal Agent. I've tried different install folders. I even went in to my registry and deleted every entry that had the word 'decal' in it.

Anyway, here's the export from my final attempt. If you need something else, let me know. The only error I get is when I click a toon to enter game - it simply says "Acclient has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I compared your export to mine, and much of it is identical...

Minor difference is .NET framework, mine has the last one, V4, installed. That shouldn't be causing Decal issues in-game.

Major difference is portal path... mine is C:\Games\Turbine\Asheron's Call - Throne of Destiny

The error you are experiencing could very well be caused by an issue there... my recommendation would be to uninstall AC, and re-install it using the Turbine default path, only changing the Program Files path to C:\Games. It should read the exact same path as mine when it's done installing. I'd re-install Decal too, so it can correctly hook the path. On an XP machine, you really shouldn't be having issues like this, unless for reasons unknown to me, the 2.9.6.5 Decal build is hostile to Win XP 32bit.

It is not hostile to XP, it works fine for me on ALL of my many (5+) XP machines and virtual machines. Same case for every other Decal developer. There is something we are missing related to configuration that is causing problems. I know we don't use any antivirus products, so maybe you should try disabling your virus protection and seeing if it fixes the problem -- you might have to change AV providers if you can't go without because you don't know to download only legitimate things.


The path on XP also does not matter, and it surely doesn't matter if where you install to is C:\AC, C:\Games, C:\Games\AC, or C:\Games\Turbine\Asheron's Call - Throne of Destiny -- it just doesn't matter. I have run Decal on many machines with completely off the wall paths, and even the default path on some of my VMs. I would be extremely surprised if this problem has ANYTHING to do with the path.


Here is my export so you can go over any differences with a comb -- the only one I notice is that I have .NET 4 installed.


Honestly I was helping someone a week ago or so and he had to completely uninstall Decal and AC both, run the reg cleaner as normal account AND as admin, then install AC & 2.9.6.5 and it worked fine. Some people this has worked for, some people it has not.
