So the tiny company I work for - new start up with only 3 employees - has been having some trouble in the past few months. I think the realization things were going poorly was about 2 months ago. Today, the CEO (but not founder) told us he has taken another job, starting Tuesday.

If 2 months ago was the iceberg, today would be the moment the crew of realized the end was inevitable. Looks like I have an extra reason to drink tomorrow night! Good thing it's a holiday on Monday - resume time!

lol.

CEO of what? A startup with a whopping 3 employees.

Even a noob hiring manager would see that for what it is.

It seems to have worked for the CEO that just jumped ship . . .

I could probably get the job if I wanted it...but I don't. It's way too stressful and I'm content where I am. Plus I don't think I'd make a good CEO. I'm content to handle the IT side of things and leave the investment, finances, and sales & marketing to the other guys.

The founder of the company will step in as CEO again (he had stepped down in order to act as Chief Science Officer in order to focus on the scientific side of our product and not be distracted by the business side as much.

You arent taking it because you want it -- you are taking it so you can more easily jump ship. Your other option is to stay till your job goes away and then try looking for a job while unemployed which these days means much less hirable.

Absolutely it did. I don't blame him for leaving, though. My company has a serious product based on some research from our CSO (soon to be CEO) with over a million in investments. We just believe we're too early to market and the end is near. An opportunity arose and he took it. I'd probably have done the same. The founder might turn it into an academic product for a couple years and try and commercialize it again down the road.
