They are fashionable anytime that it rains and you are spending a long time outside.

Comfort > fashion

Raincoats > Ponchos in the rain.

I just don't understand ponchos at all. It troubles me greatly.

I used to have a multi-coloured poncho that I wore everywhere. I might find a nice patten and crochet myself a new one!

That's something I'd like to see. Was this poncho conservative in style or rather flamboyant?

It was crocheted and stripey and so very flamboyant. I had (and still have, to an extent) a very eccentric dress style.

Aside from camo, camping, and Mexicans, I don't see many guys in a poncho.

Women's ponchos can be rather stylish, though.

The one on the far right reminds me of some kind of grim reaper.

I actually think all of those are hideous, although there are some ponchos that I like, generally I don't care for the ones of heavy fabric.

Ponchos are generally not fashionable. However, there are occasions where your fashion is only relevant at your destination. If you need to walk through heavy rain, there's nothing wrong with wearing a poncho.

The one second from the right looks good. The rest are bleh.

Waterproof ponchos are great if you're wearing a pack or pants that aren't waterproof

I like the one on the left and the one in the middle. I didn't like the one you posted at all. I've seen some really nice ones at craft fairs, but this is the only pic that comes close to them.
