Because it is better.
The tablets are basically identical in every way (specwise). Except the fact that the Galaxy Tab has a "true" or complete open Android Kernel out of the box. Basically, for lack of a better description, that means it is rooted from the manufacturer. If you don't care about a couple of useless apps you'll never use being on your device, the Transformer is WELL worth the money saved. The Galaxy tab just isn't worth paying for the name IMO.
Oh, I guess the Galaxy has one other 1-up on the Transformer, it has 3g support.

Archos 80g9. The best price to perfomance out thee, uless you can score a nice deal on a touchpad. Dual core, currently has honeycomb, ice cream sandwich coming this quarter, micro Sd and usb key expansion support ( though the 250gb hard disk version has plenty of internal storage).
Got the 16gb turbo for my son for xmas and it rocks.

Plus it is thinner and lighter, which are pretty important for mobile devices that put thin and light as one of the main design goals.

I am posting this from my GalaxyTab 10.1 because I absolutely love it. I bought my husband one for Christmas and he hasn't put it it down yet... except for when the kids steal it to play Angry Birds. Lol

I dunno, playing with the 10.1 it just felt really cheap and plastic. Which I find with almost all Samsung devices.
No HDMI or expandable memory also is a huge turnoff for me. The Transformer manages to pack those in and it is still a fairly thin device.
Maybe I will go in to Best Buy and play with it again.

I'll be the first to say it...the BB Playbook.
It's on sale for cheap, and with OS 2.0 will do Android Apps with BB native Apps/Security.
Sure there's no BBM...but that doesn't sound like an issue to you.

I know the geek in me will want to do more than just us it for school so I wanna make sure I get the bang for my buck. What will sell me the best on one is if it has an sd card slot. Looking in the 200-300 dollar range.
