Call me old fashioned but making fun of the first lady is classless and in poor taste. I hated G.W. Bush but I never, ever talked badly about Laura Bush.

So is there no standard of decency to adhere to? First ladies have been off limits for a while now. Would you be okay with liberals making fun of Barbara Bush, talking about how ugly and old and fat she is while her husband was in office? It's crass and low class.

Well it would be crass and low class to speak that way of anyone, including fatty in the 7-11 loading up on slurpees, celebrities, coworkers... what makes it worse if it's the first lady?
The Queen of England, for example, is a crotchety-looking old hag now. Good thing they have kept her picture from when she was in her 30s on all the currency, otherwise it would be frightening.

Historical precedence, an accepted standard of decorum, common decency? There's lots of little rules like that in government and politics. What made it unacceptable for Joe Wilson to scream "  ou lie!" at Obama during his state of the union address? Obama is just a man, after all, you could argue.
