Yes, it matters. If it were a child rapist, I'd do what I could to make sure the torture lasted longer and was worse...

Fine, point taken. Assume then that, whatever the reasons for them being tortured, you have no specific desire to see this person tortured.

You folks are making this too complicated, so let me just rephrase it again.
It comes down to you killing the person yourself or them being tortured very slowly by other people until they die. You don't get to watch them die unless you do it yourself. If you don't know the person then you will not be given a chance to know them. You don't know WHY they will be tortured and killed. You have no other information to go on.
Your only choice to make then is killing them yourself or allowing them to suffer a slow and painful death.
