just look at them and smile, say- hey tony! havent seen you in ages! hows the wife? the kids? brandon jr is 12 now and on the football team and little melisssa is 10 and ...
as yall talk you can always add, to help- after the tragedy, life was, and sometimes still is, hard but we are moving on as a family. so much going on with the kids and the wife is now this or that.
helps the both of you. you acknowledge the past, and yall move on to the present and the future.

I had a friend like that. He was super-smart. Went to Johns Hopkins, failed out his first year there because he played video games through all of his finals. Now he smokes a lot of weed and goes to a local community college. Haven't seen him in years...his hot sister went to college with me, though. We had biology together.

I want to make sure Kait is acknowledged but at the same time I want to bring up its a miracle Cam survived, and Lily, and the new one joining us in just a couple of weeks, and I don't want to make the convo about me, and I do genuinely want to know how they are doing and after all this I want to keep it cordial..

Yeah, I guess they don't know where to start, any question like "how's the family?" could be painful, so they don't know what to do. I have no social skills really, so I'd probably do, "Good to see you, how are you doing? Keeping busy?" :/
