I don't understand why people text speak at all. Maybe I'm just too formal...

its sometimes easier for people to text rather then speak. that or it's a trap.

I've been cussing out teenagers since I played AC, telling them that "ou" was only 3 letters long, and just as easy as typing U.

My wife is a High School English teacher.

This "text-speak" is becoming a problem that reaches beyond social media or text messaging.

Every time she assigns writing, she gets papers that contain this De-Evolution of language.

It's bad enough at this point that she even gets hand-written drafts that contain text-speak.

Ditto. Even on my phone I won't do it. It drives me insane. That being said, depending on the phone and how they have things set up, it won't always tell you when someone is updating facebook from their phone.
