Or drug dealers as undocumented pharmacists.

The graph doesnt show how the illegal immigrants lower peoples wage or the cost their children have on our schools, unpaid medical bills or other social services they use but simply do not pay any taxes on because they mostly get paid under the table.

We in CA have plenty of issues, when it comes to illegal aliens.

There's a state rep who wants to push through legislation that would not impound the cars of illegal unlicensed drivers, if they are stopped and ticketed. (The Los Angeles Sherrif and Mayor are trying to do the same thing.)

They're trying to ram through the California DREAM act, which would give tuition assistance for college, to illegals.

There are still other groups that are pushing for licenses for illegals.

I have no problem with anyone, of any race, religion, creed or national origin - coming to the United States legally, in search of making a better life for themselves, in fact I encourage legal immigration. But when people come illegally, and want a handout, and government officials seek to give it to them, I have a problem.

Is California a failed state?

Edit: The debate was a pretty good time waster at work. Enjoy.

I think it's hilarious how hard you guys try to rationalize your xenophobia by trying to imply that illegal immigrants have some sort of negative net effect on our country. you don't even realize how difficult that question is to answer. it's not self-evident and when you pretend it is you are only kidding yourselves. seriously just spend five seconds thinking about all the things you would have to calculate, lol.

and then the debate is usually framed in pseudo-rationally by talking about economic impacts and legality. you've purposefully narrowed the perspective you want to focus on because economics and the legal system are supposed to be rational. you saved yourself from sounding like a bigot! hurray! it's too bad economics isn't good enough to actually tell you much. even in only economic terms, reducing the presence of illegals to net good or net bad is a ridiculously complicated question. economic reductionist methods fail.

so here's this debate that is narrowed to two fields that are terrible at describing the issue. is it any wonder that the supposedly smart people end up repeating tired phrases? illegal things are bad cuz they are against the law! derp. you don't have anything smart or new to say. how sad.
