This MLK Day has reminded me, our nation managed to screw over the Africans, the Natives, and the Mexicans in the first 50 years of our history. How'd you guys fare up there in Canada? Screw any large number of people over royally when you were a budding nation?

They tricked us into thinking it is horrid place up there when in actuality they are the smart ones. As global warming progresses they will be the last to melt and should be a tropical paradise by 2015.

Our native population has been pretty effed over. Residential school system, broken treaties, unresolved (for 100+ years) land claims. Stuff like that.

Yep, not our finest hour.

The Natives got taken advantage of. I am not sure on the details on how Natives are treated in the States, but here some land was given back to the Natives (Reserves) which is their land, and they receive monetary allotments from the government, they get discounts and grants to go to school, and they never have to pay taxes. So although we took over everything, they got a parting gift.
The French lost the war to the British, so yes, the French 'got screwed' in their eyes, but honestly it could have been a lot worse. The French culture, language, and political influence remained in tact. But Anglo-French relations have always been a source of contention and I'm sure both sides think they're 'worse off'.
You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
