meh, California wine is ok, but at least in the kinds I drink, it's certainly not even the best US location. Washington and Willamette Valley wines are much better, and not usually much higher in price.

I tend to prefer wines from Washington State as well.

Well I didn't say California wines  I just said he should have access to nicer and more affordable wines now that he lives out there. I don't ever see many Washington/Oregon wines where I am. But I did have some Oregonian wine that my mom bought a case of, at Christmastime. It was really nice.
Here they have California, Australia, and usually a few from Spain/South America. I never even see Niagara Falls region wines, which makes me a bit sad. Living on that coast should open up the selection a lot. When I visited Napa there were tons of nice/affordable wines in Safeway... the same wines which were 2x the price once I got back home.
