It is amazing that the US could build an 800 mile pipeline in Alaska nearly 40 years ago yet people think that we are incapable of building an even safer one today.
We will never get to a point in our lifetimes where we will not need oil, it is used to make too many things. So while we are developing technologies that will reduce our dependence on oil we need to utilize our oil resources here to reduce our dependence on imported oil.

I've decided that I'm fine with this.
It increases the demand for domestic oil exploration.
Which is usually a lot more harmful for the environment than piping it in.
Which means it increases jobs for me.

mm, he wrote a book about this stuff. Yes he had friends in school, yes he did get into trouble, he smoked pot and didn't he even admit to sniffing coke or something? Or maybe that might have been our previous president.
No Obama wasn't a frat boy like W. was in college but his life isn't exactly "sanitized".

He wrote a book and got it all out there to begin with rather than keeping secrets that would get blown out of proportion and become scandals later.
