If you think you'll ever sell the house, I would highly suggest a shower/tub combo just for resale value.

those prices aren't bad at all.
if you live in nyc, i could show you tons of places to source nice stuff. but i end up at hoemdepot alot cause they have more items in stock vs smaller guys.

also you could always pimp out the van  with that money. or get a sprinter like i have tons of space!! or that new nissan van both have alot of cargo space!!!

If you do go on the mentioned vacation take a couple extra days and goto glacier park. IMO far better than yellowstone unless you are after old faithful.

we build 100's of bathrooms yearly none of it is purchased from home depot. the money do it your selfers save by doing the work them selves is wasted buying home depot over prices items.
my advice would be to search and see where land developers buy from and get a price there. also when you are pricing out stuff be vague and don't let on that you are pricing out one bathroom. play it up like you are building a house and need many of the items you are trying to purchase. walk in do it your selfers tend to get robed blind because they are not "return" costumers so sales people tend to quote very high for them since they are comparing it to home-depot most of the time .
Well, I looked at a few places online and at ebay. Everything I saw costs more. The $3500 isn't that bad.
Corner tub - $999
Toilet - $120
Sink/countertop - $120
Cabinet - $359
The other expenses were for lighting, heat, fixtures, floring and extras.
I can put you in touch with a cabinet maker, he made the vanity with built in sink unit for my BFF for $250 each. Granite top, under mounted sink, and real wood cabinet. I'm not sure if he could give you as good a deal as that, it was like 2 years ago, but it wouldn't hurt to find out. The guy builds custom yacht interiors for a living, so luxury is his specialty.
also, check out the habitat stores, they have a TON of overstock items and stuff donated to them that's left over from construction sites. I saw a tub with enclosure like you want for $600 once.

Wait till you need a new roof.
I am saving to get a metal roof, right now I am looking at around $6500.
I could get a shingles for a third of the price, but with metal it has a lifetime warranty.

I got a window from the habitat restore to replace my big picture window. Its technically "used" but it was in a model home that got window upgrades when it was sold, so I got a $900 window for $180. They have a lot of these kinds of things, and more flooring than you could shake a stick at. The South Seattle store is the one I go to, not far from Boeing Plant 2 if you ever have to drive down there, be sure to stop there to take a look.
