How stupid are you people? Seriously? When you present to a mass audience, you WANT a low grade level on your text. Academic papers are fine at 15th grade level, but I always had a dickens of a time getting my public information projects below a 12th grade level. It's HARDER to write at a lower grade level, and I applaud Obama and his writers for getting this done.
For reference, Reader's Digest and most mass-consumption periodicals target a 5th grade level.
God, you people are freaking s**thead idiots, never letting your complete lack of grasp of the situation stop you from opening your idiot pieholes.

In Major Gaffe, Obama Forgets To Dumb It Down
CINCINNATI—In a serious miscalculation that may prove devastating to his bid for a second term, President Barack Obama neglected Tuesday to simplify a statement to the point where it could readily be grasped by anyone with the vocabulary of an 8-year-old. "Instead of saying, 'There are many global variables at work here, and unless they all fall into place, we could find ourselves back in a recession,' he should have just said, 'Times are hard. We gotta be strong,'" said Washington Post political correspondent Brian Meltzer, noting that Obama's statement during a speech on job creation was met with dumbfounded looks and audible gasps from the crowd. "Americans are so used to meaningless homespun homilies, they don't know what to do when they're treated like thinking adults. The president has to understand that if he goes out there throwing around words like 'currency' and 'economy,' he'll end up being branded an elitist." In an attempt to correct the error, Obama concluded his speech with the words "Jobs good. No jobs bad. God bless America."

I know this because I actually wrote a para in an audit I did of a govt entity and was cited at the 19.2 grade level for its complexity, which is now a bad thing.
Seems only Obama and myself are up to date while the rest of you don't have a clue, as usual I might add.
Pathetic is the word your looking for as to your own level of understanding.
I was going to say the same thing. The training I write is generally required by DoD standards to be at an 8th grade level. If I'm teaching pilots, it's 10th grade level.

No, pretty much all of you. Plenty of people took Combat to task on this thread, but for the wrong reasons, because nobody understood that writing or delivering a speech at a lower grade level is both desirable and harder. So even if your sentiments were in the right place, you lacked any understanding of the issue whatsoever and STILL ran your mouth about it.
But if you personally want extra kudos for misunderstanding the explanation and yet still running your mouth about it, then take all you want.

Actually at an 8th grade level it's just about perfect for the populace. My biggest problem in college with writing essays is that my writing was too high level. I had to dumb it down just like the newspapers. I was continually scoring at a 14th and 15th grade level. Was hard to bring it down to 9th grade level which is where it should have been.
