I was at my grandmother-in-law's 99th birthday party over the weekend. She's a sweet old lady, though I've heard tales about how she was a terror back in the day. But, I have to say in the 20 years I've known her, I never saw it. Keep that mean streak thing in mind, it becomes important later on.
At some point in the party, after everyone had eaten, I was sitting next to granny, and my sister in law motions to me. So, I go over and she whispers "can you distract the kids over there for a minute, I have to read granny the riot act." I'm like "Seriously?" and she says yeah, seriously. So I'm thinking WTF, did granny eat some cake or something that will give her diabetes? What could you possibly read a 99 year old woman the riot act over?
So, I distract their kids and mine with a game of trash can basketball. A few minutes later, my sister in law and her hubby storm over, grab their 2 kids storm out. I'm all like WTF? So come to find out, after dinner granny saw the younger daughter (2nd grader and no, no pics ACF) of my sister in law and said "aawwwwww come here you little fatty give granny a kiss!"
Apparently she did not approve of granny calling her daughter a fatty. She heard that granny used to be a meany back in the old days, so she assumed she meant harm by it and she harshed granny out bad, made her feel horrible, and said she would never see her daughter again for as long as she lives.
I'm like...wtf she's 99, that could very well be tomorrow. What a way to celebrate a 99th birthday.
So, who wants some cake? We counted on little fatty eating at least 20 peices so we have some extra.
