Back from Cancun...

first time there (3rd time to Mexico)
It feels like the Vegas strip with so many giant resorts/hotels.
Not sure if it was the town, or just our resort, but I couldn't go 10ft without running into at least 3 hot girls wearing tiny bikinis or thongs...
My buddy who booked the place said our hotel was known as a 'Party Hotel' and I can believe it...everyone was mainly 18-30 year olds. Lots of South American countries represented at the resort, Argentina population was the biggest of the South American countries, but by and far it was mainly Canadians there. So many hot hot French girls...oh my.
And then I get back and my family was calling me to make sure I was OK because there was another report of a Canadian tourist being beaten near to death in Mexico (girl in Mazatlan as it happens).
Big debate right now about how safe it is for people to travel to Mexico...
*shrug*
I'd go back to Cancun...maybe not Mexico City or Tijuana though...

I have seen commercials on tv promoting how safe it is to go to mexico to vacation.

I don't know man. I'm watching Breaking Bad on netflix, those cartel guys are pretty rough.

We went down as a group (6 of us) and for the most part there was always at least 2 people doing stuff like going out to clubs and what not...so I don't know, I felt really safe...but I'm also not a girl. Walking around half naked just about anywhere in the world as a girl...I would be a LITTLE sketched out of getting jumped.
And we made sure the girls always had someone to walk back to their room with them, or go into town with them.

It's not in the best interests of the cartels to start messing up tourists. They know that. Not saying some stuff hasn't or won't happen to foreigners, but they tend to police themselves in that regard.

As a tourist and American citizen, I appreciate everything the drug cartels do for me and I'm sure they're aware of our appreciation. Americans love drugs

heh, I lol'd thinkin', wow that's pretty bad when a tv commercial has to be made to get more people to vacation there
