what about a cruise out of Florida? The one I went on to Alaska was pretty cool for kids, they had their own "bar" of sorts and an arcade besides all the pool and mini golf, basketball, and rock wall climbing. Some of those boats even have surfing.
This sounds interesting. Was it terribly expensive?
she took a cruise to alaska out of florida? holy hell, even the US Navy doesnt do that transit route...
panama canal transit anyone?
lol, no, I suggested florida to him, since those ones are generally cheaper than the west coast cruises. Our cruise was crazy expensive, but that was my mom's fault and she could have gotten it much much cheaper if she'd let me shop around for it. If you use a credit card they often have special rewards for customers to get cheap cruises. There are some Mexico cruises as well from the west coast, depending on how much airfare is from your neck of the woods to where you're going...

Road trip then... Since you're in Wisc... Drive to Maine, spend a couple days there... Drive to Florida sightseeing... Spend a couple days... Go to Disney World... Drive to California sightseeing... Go up the Pacific Coast Highway driving to Washington... Then back to Wisc...
 *shrug*
Plenty of beaches except for the string between Washington and Wisconsin...

Oh christ. Just say no to road trips.
Also be wary of theme parks. Your 7 year old can probably ride most of the rides. Your 5 and 3 year olds are going to be crying screaming slobbery messes whenever they have to stay with mom while dad takes the oldest on the fun rides... If you drive there, you'll get to hear them fighting and crying and pooping and peeing about it all the way home.

Our family went to Maui over Thanksgiving and found very reasonable condos with ocean views at a nice resort. It was also cheaper since that week must be a slower tourist time there.

Nice. If you don't mind my tacky question. How much were the condos nightly? Lol
I honestly don't remember, sorry. It's been a few years...

Omg this! And I'm a single dad, so I'm looking for stuff that's fun for everyone (yeah, I know, its a long shot)

Continental and United both have some of the best combined air, car, hotel deals you can find, but before you pick the hotel please check with me and I can give you the skinny.
Locals use Panda Travel and CHeap Tickets started here in Hawaii.
Oahu is cheapest, has the most crowds, Kauai is most desolate, Maui has day and night life and the Big Island has an actively erupting vacation.
If you play golf and are on Oahu I can suggest and join you if you like for a round.
I will take you up on that, sir

Ever considered doing something epic, like touring Yellowstone, or Yosemite and camping? The US has a lot of natural wonders that are totally awesome, but don't involve flying to one coast or the other.
Also, Canada has some great places to visit.
Off the top of my head, I'd suggest looking into
Yosemite
Yellowstone
Mammoth Caves
Grand Canyon
Utah/Arizona deserts
New England tour, if your family has been here for generations, there could be a lot of family history there. You can visit the old battlefields and still find stuff left behind from what I've been told.
Consider renting a cabin on a large lake and doing some boating.
