Welp, put in an offer to buy a house... |
We'll see how it goes. The place is nice and spacious; needs some cosmetic work. Carpets cleaned/stretched, paint, cabinet work, gutters cleaned, deck redone...but other than that, nothing major. Should be a good starter home.

Houses are so much more expensive than you think they are. We planned on it being about 2k to get the house liveable, ie blinds or window coverings, deposits on utilities, replacing some appliances, etc. , and were shocked when it went over that but were lucky to have a large chunk in savings, just in case. Be prepared for it being more than you originally thought! My mother in law did warn us!

Fortunately, my dad remodeled homes professionally for 20+ years, and I have some experience doing it myself. I've got an idea of the costs involved, and we've got more than enough to cover it.
Utility deposits will be unnecessary; the utilities are through the same companies I've used for all of my residences here, and they waive the deposits every time because I've never had a late payment
