I'd like to hear what you think of the Monk and Demon Hunter

I'll give you a little on the Monk as it is the first class I will play on release.

The beta is definitely on Easy setting and it shows with the Monk. I finished Act 1 without ever using a health potion and I don't think I ever lost more than 20% health on any fight. I am not cautious either, big fights are what I look for so it wasn't caution that kept the damage down.

You don't get a lot of skills in Act 1 so not much to report. You unlock slots to put skills on as you level so in Act 1 you never get more than 3 maximum skills to put on your UI. You get Spirit building skills as well as Spirit consuming, think finisher, skills. You also get access to Buffs, I forget what they were called. I pretty much stuck with the builder that projected spirit at a short range and the finisher that drew in mobs around you at a short range and inflicts damage to them all. For a while I also used a finisher that was basically a round house (aoe) kick that was nice.

I noticed a heal in the finisher column but never even considered using it as Act 1 is just so damn easy. Honestly, you have to jump into a mass of mobs and go afk to die in the first Act. You also get a companion towards the end and you can select some of his skills as well, one being a heal so you can also benefit from that as well.

The buff I eventually put on my bar was one that increased my dodge rate confirming my assumption that Monks would rely on evasion as we are Light Armor wearers. Everything seemed to point to a class that uses speed to dash in, unload gobs of damage, and dash out as required to mitigate incoming damage if it gets too high. Seems a very survivable class from the skills I could see.

You are a dual wielder and have access to a variety of weapons but the class defining weapons are the fist weapons (very reminiscent to UA weapons in AC).

As Mithan stated, crafting looks very useful as I could always craft armor and weapons better than the 3 vendors in New Tristram. It is also fairly easy as you salvage magical items (the higher the rarity, the higher the mats) for mats and sell the rest. Depending on the quantity and rarity of mats, you can craft equally rare weapons and armor. You can upgrade the Blacksmith NPC's skills to open up better recipes. He also repairs your gear.

Hope this helps some.

Some slight corrections to this, in the beta you get 4 slots for skills(4th being at 12), and the buffs you get are Mantras, basically auras. The beta ends I think either 25% or 33% through Act 1, on Normal Difficulty, so yeah it's not really intended to be hard. Even playing with 4 people, and mobs have 3x the health, I've only *almost* died once, and that wasn't even as a Monk. The game will get harder.

Monks also get 2 "class defining" waepons, one being the fist weapons like knuckles and what not, but they also get a 2h weapon, staves basically. Which seem infinitley better than dual-wield, as skills are based off weapon damage and speed, and the 2h weapons make their crap hit much, much harder.

When I played through on Monk, I stuck with the Dash attack to get around, the Spirit Builder that does AoE damage/snares and the Lash Tail Kick for a spirit dump. Monk is one of my favorite classes, and will be easily one of the best soloists.

Demon Hunter on the other hand, I am not a huge fan of. Their damage potential, IN THE BETA, is pretty low. They get some decent skills later on, and Runes definitely will impact their skills, but in the beta they seem just awful. The only thing worse, is Witch Doctor.

Yeah, I was lvl 9 when I finished the beta so never got to 12 for the next open slot. I either never picked up a Staff or just wasn't paying attention but would prefer that over the DW fist weapons.

Also, at 10 you get a Passive. There are 3 slots total, I think at 10, 20 and 30. Every class has like 12 to 15 different passives, that either give bonuses to stats/etc (Barbarian gets +5% crit/+50% crit damage etc) or bonuses to skills (Witch Doctor gets one that gives +20% damage to various Pet based skills).

Runes are the biggest thing that isn't in the Beta right now. It completely changes skills, and I wish they had it in testing. oh well.

i went all the way through the beta with each class. it's amazing how much more powerful the barbarian si compared to everything else. it's almost ridiculous.

and also Mithan give us thoughts on classes plskkthx

I played the Barbarian and its powerful. The game is easy with this class. I never even came close to dying or even 50% health.

Mithan,

How do you feel about the fact that there is, as far as I can see, virtually no character personalization. Every *class* has the same skills, the same level at given character level, etc etc.

If I play a *class* and my buddy plays the same *class*, from what I understand we will be the exact same every level of the game besides items.

True?

No idea, but from what I see the, the limited "quick slots" and all the other crap should act to differentiate.

I also just read something saying that Blizzard considers Act 1 to basically be a tutorial, which is why it is so easy.

I hope that it true.

Normal mode in Diablo 1 and 2 both could be beaten with only a slight amount of trouble with any class in the game.

Neither one was really much of a challenge until you upped the difficulty later.

I'm interested in the new difficulty... every single mob the same level, higher than your cap. Should be interesting.
