the funny part is you are both wrong. it's a complex interplay between genes and environment. genes influence your behavior and your environment, the environment influences how your genes are expressed. if you don't believe me that's ok, i'm only paraphrasing what the people who spend their lives studying the question think. i am sure your story about that one guy is valid too.

I know the pain of addiction both as a family member of the addicted, and as the addicted person myself. It's a totally crappy situation for everyone involved. My condolences to you and the rest of his family and friends.

heh clearly you didn't care to read what I actually said. Did I say it was all genetics? Nope. I think it's not just nature or nurture but both, and that people are still capable and responsible for making their own choices, too.
