the first bit wasn't in the movie, no. first thing I saw in the theater of that scene was the kid being in the car.

Now those two minutes gives me a different outlook on Kirk, I thought he was a punk trouble making teenager, that got lucky but.
after learning that the car belonged to his dad and his uncle is a douche bag. He was totally justified in driving that car off the cliff.

Knowing that, James T Kirk the character has a little more respect.

Makes more sense, but it's boring and Kirk comes off as the straight-and-narrow path younger brother. The movie way makes more sense as he's a reckless badass even as a kid, even though you do not get the phone conversation, nor who the kid on the side of the road is, or why he drives the car off the cliff...

There's some delight in ale and wine,
And some in girls with ankles fine,
But my delight, yes, always mine,
Is to dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

I, on the other hand, prefer a command-line system 'cause i'm so hardcore
/north /north *You encounter an [Avatar of the god Set]!*
/cast sheild *sheild spell unavailable*
/csat shield *csat: unknown command*
*[Avatar of Set] beheads [Peasant]*

Yeah I actually like it without the extra background.

He's just a badass reckless kid, I don't need a sob story to explain it.

Kumar and his awsome actiony ninja $$%^ we are dropping to our doom scene.

I think it meets todays audience expectations altho I will more then likely watch the old 1970 circa stuff over it.

Or the TNG films grew up on TNG so ya tho I did watch old re-runs of TOS up at my granparents place my grand dad loved it probably the only thing I had in common with him

Really kinda bummed out that DS9 never had a movie made after it with that cast, that was a great cast of characters esp near the end of the run I think out of all of them DS9 had the strongest finish of them all.

Voyager I think could of used one more season to really finish it off proper the ending is so very sudden.

Enterprise can go DIAF FFS !!! I hate that show I was into it at the time but watching it after it's such a blemish on the series the ending is just so wrong.

They never do explore the arcs/plots/sub plots they never get into anyones character or anything it's just a silly action piece. Should of called it Andromeda : the startrek years......

I watch Trek everyday a couple of episodes of each.. Watch Stargete Atlantis and SG-1 man they look so old now don't understand why Sci-Fi died the way it did it was awsome stuff for TV fodder and movie fodder.

Not even very many sci-fi movies anymore either. I'm waiting on Prometheus hoping it dosn't crap on the Alien series tho to be fair they have crapped on themselves already with AVP / AVP2 and Aliens 4.

Still think Aliens 3 belongs in there someplace it's not my favorite but it's not outright tripe like 4 is.

Each time I watch this movie, I like it a little less.

Mangler had an accident on the way home from the liquor store. He was run off the road and crashed into a woman's clinic. It was one giant Pabst smear.
