A colony of larvae and a few insect traps could yield a day's meal couldn't it? They could even dry preserve them for bad seasons or try to market and export the surplus.

Go find a colony of larvae right now. For a lot of the worlds starving people, they live in an environment where a rat is more common than a colony of insects. Or perhaps they get food but its not enough or there's diseases and they're malnourished any way.

I could definitely find one nearby if I wanted to.

They just need to learn how to catch the insects in their environment. Instead of exporting rice to them we should be exporting shovels and nets. In fact there's a thought... why don't mosquito nets double as mosquito traps? People could sleep safe and wake up to a mosquito omelet for breakfast.

Even when the US started, people had to grow and preserve their food for harsh seasons, and they usually had a good idea of how much they needed to save. Maybe starving people should save some of their bugs for when there's famine.

if you can catch enough mosquitos in one night to make breakfast then there's probably lots of lovely diseases they are bringing to you as well. you may eat like the king of bats and then die of malaria.

Nothing's stopping them from supplementing the mosquito omelet with a worm milkshake.
