I don't want kids but I love them still. I am too selfish to devote that much time to kids. It's funny though because I still always think of things that involve me having them. Like I will have a brief flash of what I would share with my daughter or son, and then I remember I don't want them

For those of you who dont have kids... |
Nope. People used to say that I was going to be the total earth mother with a passel of children. Yeah, not so much. In the meantime, some pretty cool kids became a part of my life, and I didn't even have to give birth to them, or get up in the night, or change dirty diapers!

I didn't want one until I was 30. Once I had her, I realized I didn't want another. One was enough.

yeah I do still like the idea of adopting an older child, one that is potty trained at least lol I think those are the best years anyways where they are discovering everything and its all new to them.

When I was younger, I used to want kids. A boy and a girl. Had names picked out for them as well. As I've aged and had much more experience with them (especially after my parents decided to adopt two infants when I was about 24-25), my desire for children has vanished. In fact, the older I get, the less patient I seem to get with kids.
My wife is the same way. In fact, I can still remember the day that we decided that we weren't going to have them. We were in an Olive Garden, having lunch, and there was this toddler who was screaming as loud as he possibly could. The only time he was quiet was when his mother put some food into his mouth. The mother was the only person with the toddler, and she looked tired. I don't mean tired like 'I haven't slept in awhile', I mean tired like...someone who has just been beaten down by life. Maybe the kid was just having a bad day, maybe he was tired, or had an ear infection...I don't know. But it didn't matter. We both knew we never wanted to have to go through that, ever.
People like it when I watch their kids. My mom says that we're the only people she trusts with my little brother and sister, because we don't let them get away with stuff. But it frays my nerves. They talk too damn much. They're too loud. Nothing they have to say is of any consequence. And I know that I was the exact same way when I was a kid, but why does that mean that I have to suffer too? My wife and I would rather not be chained down financially, emotionally, or socially by kids.
