I'd get another opinion.

a shrink giving medical advice is like ACF giving advice on how to be sensitive to others feelings.

I'd look into the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist...

considering she just said shrink I'd look into stfu.

Regardless what jezza said above. It's still like going to a carpenter to do electrical work.

I dont take zyprexa often (maybe twice a week on a bad week) and when i do its a baby dose. According to shrinky that should be fine.

I would consult with a pharmacist prior to getting pregnant and taking ANYTHING.

I have avoided taking anything but the random tylenol while pregnant and a set of antibiotics a couple of weeks ago. It isn't worth the risk.

I'd not be so selfish if I had an affliction such as she does. It's simply not fair to the child.

Genuine question here, im not trying to troll: why, when i've already said that im consulting with my doctor over EVERYTHING, would you say i also had to ask a pharmacist? Personally i would trust an M.D. who prescribes this stuff for a living and knows this kind of (and these specific!) drugs like the back of her hand over a pharmacist who yeah knows a lot about drugs but has to retain a lot of information about a lot of different drugs and might not know my specific drugs very well.

I would love to avoid taking anything during pregnancy, but it isnt going to happen.

Because pharmacists go to school specifically to learn about drugs, interactions, and their effects. Yes, you do go to an MD who is able to prescribe, but that does not mean that they are schooled in all interactions/effects. Your psych may not know that a drug you take is Class C drug for pregnancy.

You don't need to take this so personally, but you do need to realize that a pharmacist is specialized in drugs - your MD is not.

If you are on any kind of prescription drugs, there are three main people you should consult with before continuing to take them during pregnancy.

~Your current doctor (or in your case, your shrink, since she is both)
~Your OB/GYN who will be seeing you during your pregnancy- they know much more about pregnancy and what drugs to take/not take while you're pregnant than other docs.
~Your pharmacist- as stated above, they are specifically trained in drugs/drug interactions and often know when things are dangerous that other doctors might miss.

Doctors aren't infallible; it's a very good idea, even if you trust your doctor, to do your own research, get a second opinion, and ask questions.

Well as far as 1 and 2 are concerned, she already said that when the time comes not only does she want me discussing things with both her and my OB, but she also wants me to sign a release that says she can also talk to my OB, just in case.

I will also talk to a pharmacist about it, but for what its worth she knew the pregnancy categories of all the drugs i take, which is why she said she wants me 100% clear of lithium before i even start trying.
