Keep cutting benefits down to nothing combined with less than minimum wage pay, and people won't. Then you can cry when the Mexican army takes your house.

Obama’s proposal would raise fees to match the BlueCross BlueShield Standard plan for federal employees.

OMG OMG OMG OBAMA SHOULD BE IMPEACHED!!!!!

The military is sacred cow which should have been slaughtered a long time ago.

It is driving this country into the poorhouse.

From the second article: The White House fact sheet says the administration “supports a generous health care benefit” but says co-payments for military beneficiaries “have lagged behind other federal and private plans.”

Yeah well guess what? The amount you pay military members has also "lagged behind" what federal and private employees make. Military gets paid peanuts compared to federal employees, don't have the option of quitting anytime they want, and put their lives on the line for the rest of us who would rather not.

I'll support this when the pay level for all military members can actually compare to private sector employees. When you figure in the hours they work and the job they have to do, even when factoring in the benefits- it still sucks.

It is a volunteer service remember if they don't like it, leave.

They get that chance every time they re-up, but then again they get a bonus.

It is about time we cut our military in half, it would solve our budget problems totally.

any questions?

This is the problem wit6h this country the lot of you suck at mathematics.

All your bs crap with no numbers to back it up, I can back up my other assertions as well with facts like the payroll costs, but hey why mess with people who can't even do fractions.

Actually Hyper, I bet we'd be fine with our current defense system if we didn't keep sticking our nose in places where we ought not to be (Iraq). Notice how much those numbers spiked since the Iraqi war.

Back it up with inaccurate and misleading graphs?

No, I'll back up my comment with the US Budget, that breaks down quite nicely how the military distributes its money.

Google it. We'll wait.

So the retired colonel and his family would have to pay ~$160/month instead of $40/month?

Still sounds like a pretty good deal to me. After all the colonel's family didn't serve in the military.

Doesnt sound that good though when you sensationalize it by putting it in terms of % instead of raw numbers.

I was just about to highlight that part too:

According to congressional assessments, a retired Army colonel with a family currently paying $460 a year for health care will pay $2,048.

Jeezus, that is some seriously subsidized health care. For a family of 4, we currently pay more per MONTH than a retired col. does for the year.
