I agree with this, but I don't exactly understand your process. Here only party members choose the leader at a leadership convention.

I used to think this too, but why is it a requirement that parties be involved in a public activity. Isn't in California that made the primaries open and then the top 2 vote getters, regardless of party compete in the general election. Why should the public pay for activities around the selection of party candidates?

The party system is set up to never have such a candidate.

Closest thing to it in recent history might have been JFK -- but he was merely fiscally moderate.
